A mate of mine and fellow forum member checked out the Suspiria BR yesterday and was stunned by the HD PQ. Especially the film's colours.

Unfortunately, the version we saw *shown on Film 4) was badly dubbed which really hurt the verisimilitude of the dialogue scenes. Although the acting seems pretty ropey anyway. This is not an "acting" film.

Three things mark Suspiria out: 1. the soundtrack, which is by a band called "Goblin" is INCREDIBLE. Youtube it. It's one of the best I've ever heard. Creepy, nightmarish, and at the same time somehow hummable and even dancable. There's all sorts of strange voices and noises in the mix, and it is I'd say at least a third of the reason to see the film.

The other two things are the cinematography and the sets. This is one of the brightest, most colourful films you'll ever see. When a room is red it's RED. The blue is BLUE. There are some very clever shots in this.

Some scenes are very unsettling. A swirl of movement, colour and noise. I think my wife probably liked it more than me because she is better at appreciating photography. It's a real spectacle of a film.

Try to find the non-dubbed version though. I HATE dubbing.

By dubbed, do you mean the English language version? If so, that's how it was done. Most Italian films are done this way, even in their native tongue. It's an Italian movie, but shot for English language (the actors of different nationalities are all speaking English in it). Just the way SUSPIRIA (and thousands of other movies) is.

The syncing was awful though.

Maybe the bad synching was down to the Flm 4 broadcast..? I've always found the dubbing to be quite good in this one. Grab the Blu-ray, you won't be disappointed!

i sky +'d it and watched it for the first time the other day, a stunning film if i may say so, the over dubbing was quite bad but wasn't a problem as it is obvious that some of the actors have bad English, the main problem i had was the PQ on the film 4 broadcast. It was fuzzy and blurry at time and im just wondering if the DVD/Blu has a clear picture.

This Blu is one of the best I have seen for such an old film ... as for the comments about the language/dubbing and syncing etc .. accept it for what it is .. it's a low budget movie for goodness sake!

Forget the TV broadcasts .. this blu is gorgeous!

Shame it wasn't an Arrow release

I agree with all of the above. Had it been an Arrow release we would have had some decent artwork that portrayed the movie other than a sleazy noir title and wouldn't have had a tagline saying "Taking Trash Seriously". A great BR badly marketed.

That's right Way, a big opportunity lost by the distributors. Arrow would have made a cracker of this. A real fan boy choice .... kerching!
