Suspiria

A comparison of three different releases

1) United Kingdom - Noveaux Pictures / Cine-Excess Blu-ray (2009) - one of the first Blu-rays of Suspiria - HD
2) Austria - Eightyfour Entertainment Blu-ray (2012) - one of quite a few releases based on the original Italian master - remastered in 2K
3) Austria - Eightyfour Entertainment Blu-ray (2017) - based on the same new master as the most recent Italian Blu-ray and any future Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray - remastered in 4K

Costume idea by designer Pierangeli Cicoletti for Daria Nicolodi as the character of Sara in Suspiria

Daria Nicolodi had originally planned on playing the role of Sara, but was unable to due to illness so Argento asked for Italian actress Stefania Casini to play the part

The new one

High praise and mass walkouts during first Suspiria screening | Flickering The Myth

"Not everyone is ready or willing to dive into the world of Suspiria. Reports say that there were many walk-outs from the Venice Film Festival attendees about half-way through the film. Some went as far as to boo the movie when credits rolled. To be fair, it’s also reported that many are praising Suspiria with it getting whistles and cheers at the end. It seems like we have 2018’s most polarizing film upon us!

One tweet from podcast The Habitus calls the horror film “colourless, gory, kind of a dull trudge,” while a tweet from another viewer called Suspiria “the most intense experience of their life.” Even with how different the tweets seem, they both showcase the tone and style director Luca Guadagnino wanted to achieve. The reaction is similar to what many felt about the original Suspiria, the 1977’s giallo film by Dario Argento, so fans of that film can rest easy. Lorenzo Ciorcalo on Twitter went as far as to say this film is a “radical reframing” and not a remake."
