I'm also happy there is gonna be special features, I'm hoping it includes interviews with all the key people involved with the film. So yeah if the gore is reinserted into the film then perfick, if not then and it's used as an extra then it ain't the end of the world.
I hear what you're saying and partially agree - an SE would be most welcome. But if we think of digital remastering as also a way of digitally preserving the film for generations to come, then it's a bit shortsighted not to do the job in total and restore the film back to its director's original intentions.

As long as the footage gets out onto the public domain, there's a good chance we can see a full uncut edit... AT LAST!

Particularly since the footage is most likely in decent condition as the director never questioned the possibilty of restoring the original version in interviews dating as far back as the early 90's....IF Paramount ever gave the green light.

It'll be now or never...but unfortunately I know myself too well not to see me settling for the same old print on disc yet again as long as it reads "SE" on the cover sleeve...

According to this press release it looks like the film will be released with the excised footage spliced back in...

Time will only tell if it is fully uncut of course!

First I thought: " Way to go, Paramount!"
Then I actually read the news and realized that it'll be "Lionsgate", who are handling the original's SE in the States.
...Which made me really wonder about the chances of this slipping also onto R2 in time for the remake's release....but who knows....

Spotted this on another forum. That news page on 'shock till you drop' has been updated, seems the excised footage IS being re-integrated back into the film.

You can watch the scenes seperately or as part of the film...

This is good news indeed
