Somehow I can't see the BBFC agreeing to reverse their decision and waive the cut. This cut originally goes back over 20 years. They were asked to reconsider the cut by viewing the film again recently and somewhat unsurprisingly the cut has been retained. If the cut is waived in the next 20 years I'll be surprised. With the BBFC cutting DVD in line with the animals act cuts like this are going to continue.

How about you Vince? Can you see the cut being waived?

Maybe we should write to our MPs, to see if that would carry more weight. After all, the BBFC aren't following a law (it only applies to public exhibition), but only a policy they have made themselves.

It's a long shot, but a change in the way DVDs and BDs are censored/classified wouldn't go amiss.

No I don't, and I think writing/appealing to them is a complete waste of time and effort. Even if they wanted to waive the cut they couldn't as the scene in question was staged for the movie and contravenes the Animals Act which the BBFC have to abide to, like it or not.

Expect Profondo Rosso to receive the same cut as before too.

Hardly. It takes mere seconds and lets them know what people think. I don't think anyone writing to them expects the decision to be reversed, but it is important that the BBFC are told what people think.

If they are stupid, they must be told they are stupid. Similarly they should be congratulated in events such as the seeing of sanity over such things as Salo or Caligula. They must be held accountable and hear opinion.

They will reply and then move on. Nothing will be changed whatsoever and letters to them still won't affect their policy. Now and for some foreseeable time.

I'm surprised the cuts to New York Ripper and Venus In Furs didn't provoke a similar reaction.

I agree, people started to complain about violence in movies - look what happened. If we all finally start to bitch about art being censored then maybe something can be done?

Quite.

They must still be told. They can't be left distant in their ivory tower. They must be questioned and challenged in any way possible, no matter how small.

This forum was presumably smaller then. They were very early Shameless releases. Had I been on the forum I would certainly have complained and moaned!

As much as I want to support Shameless, I have not bought either disk and have no intention of buying them.

Presumably the probable cuts to I Spit On Your Grave will provoke the same reaction?

Whilst I sympathise with wanting the extra five seconds of cat-mouse action in there...

Just to repeat what I said earlier:

If you want companies to continue not putting the effort in then by all means increase sales of these titles - but don't bother moaning if, in future, other labels see the sales figures of bare bones editions and follow suit without spending on special features (indeed, why should they if bare bones editions sell just perfectly?)

Arrow definitely need your support if you want more packed BD and DVD editions (and if you want other companies to stand up and take notice).
Worth remembering that if Inferno was coming out from certain other UK companies you'd be getting naff all with it (And from their recent record who knows if BU will invest in new goodies to accompany the feature). I hope others will consider this when Inferno hits the shelves in glorious HD! (And, yes, before anyone brings it up - of course I'm close to these releases: which is why I get so bummed when something like Cannibal Apocalypse is announced and there's nothing on the DVD but the movie...)
