Old Memories Die Hard
When it was originally submitted it was slaughtered by the BBFC, they liked nothing about it, the theme, the nudity but most of all...the crossbow! Back in the day the BBFC had a particular hatred for scenes involving a crossbow (cue Brenda and her weapon of choice) I know it's been many years since it's initital submission, but the BBFC hardly change their staff, so this one is really going to test the 'new leniency' I pray that they pass as 18 uncut but I have my reservations The U.S congress refer to TCM as 'that chainsaw film' Let's hope the BBFC don't see it as 'that rape and crossbow film' and bring out the scissors! |

They have changed their policy on nunchucks and I've seen a couple of films in which a crossbow was used (Dying Breed springs to mind) so hopefully it is not now a forbidden weapon.

Very doubtful that this will be uncut
I have written about the BBFC on a few occasions (one of my articles can be found under 'A Serbian Film – In The Cut' on the littlewhitelies website) and the fact that the issue is over a pretty in-your-face rape scene of a disabled victim that is placed as an exploitative drive for the main character in a US cheapy means the BBFC will certainly want to give it short shrift. Rape is still the final hurdle of the nasties era that still remains the one area of zero tolerance if it appears in a film the BBFC will no doubt consider to be exploitative guff. I hope it gets through though because it's one the the best examples of its genre and really has to be seen uncut.

In this particular case, i would like to see the BBFC pass this uncut, and as a comprimise, put a warning on the box that some scenes conntain scenes of an extremely disturbing nature. |

Although I do not agree with censorship in any form, I can see where the BBFC are coming from when it comes to sexualised violence, violence towards children, and animal cruelty, and I do find them to be much more consistent than the MPAA. I think it's also important to remember that the MPAA is not a censor, but an industry body which by it's very nature can't help operate in the interests of the film studios ie. ensuring that as many people get to see the films as possible. The more films that get an 'R' rating the less punters they have to turn away at the box office, even if that means letting an 8 year old into see a film like Hostel, because 'hey, it's the parents choice.' Personally I think of the 'R' rating as closer to our 15, rather than an 18. Look on the bright side, we could be in Australia - the website Refused-Classification.com makes for some very illuminating reading . Anyway, having said all that, my money is on this getting passed uncut. If The Last House On The Left can get an 18, I don't see any problem with this one. |

Tobassco would be funnier mate! And yeah Dream Demon, that's a fair point. If LHOTL can get through unscathed, then this has a great chance!
