WHERE "SCARFACE" LEFT OFF... "KING OF NEW YORK" BEGINS

er...THE KING OF NEW YORK is nothing compared to De Palma's classic!

Disagree, I'd sooner watch King Of New York anyday, I think it is both grittier and more entertaining and has the better atmosphere of the two films. It does a tremendous job of capturing the night time cityscapes of New York in all their neon-lit gloom and shadow. Not to mention the all-star cast. But then I've never been much of a De Palma fan anyways. I didn't think Scarface was much special although it was certainly an entertaining film.

King isn't anywhere near as OTT as Scarface.
Both are classics though.Just very different films IMO.

the main theme of SCARFACE was its ott violence/swearing/drugs etc
the film was all about excess
unlike KING OF NEW YORK which is drab imo

I still think Ferrari's best film is BAD LIEUTENANT

By my reckoning, that's 4 hours and 6 minutes from start to finish!

Mr Monger - would you like to be my boyfriend?

Are you serious?

I think King Of New York is ten times the films Scarface is, in every department!

I am an admirer of De Palma's, for the record. But I think Scarface is one of his least films (though a decent watch and well made). Carlito's Way is better, for example.

CARLITO'S WAY is an excellent and underrated film as well from De Palma but SCARFACE (my fave film of all time) is better esp than the dire KING OF NEW YORK
