I've never read that copy...or any of them. I bought them purely for the covers. Stupid indulgences when i had money to burn.

These are the covers that drew me in as a kid, a lot of them had a creepy dark vibe going on, with well drawn artwork, used to love the lightning streak.

I like the Pet Sematery one thank you very much.

Besides it's no different to the one you say is cool.

That one is a lot better than the others, i was just giving a few examples of modern versions.
I think it's something to do with all the white on the covers, i just kind of like covers that feature stuff surrounded by darkness.

Also some of the covers seem photoshopped or oversimplified, can't beat a good drawing in my mind.

Of the six modern ones you posted. The first four are horrendous but i do like Pet Sematary as mentioned and also Christine. I like the composition of red on grey. It really stands out.

I still prefer the originals any day of the week.

The Plymouth Fury car from Christine is one of my favourite film cars, so you can't go wrong with a decent illustration in my mind.

I used to be quite an arty kid so i'd often end up trying to draw the covers as well, i definitely drew that Pet Sematary cover, Carrie and Night shift at the time.

....Having said that about overly white covers i just thought of the Herbert books i had which goes against what i said.

I guess it's just a nostalgia thing then as i liked these covers.

Although these are drawn as well so maybe that's the issue with me.
Shrine and Jonah are very sparse covers, but the look of the kid is still pretty creepy.

That Carrie cover was another of my favourites, intense stare, blood and good likeness.
