The Critics Were Wrong .... again The Birds "The only point of interest about TB is that it's by Alfred Hitchcock, who once had a deserved reputation as a master technician. If the director's name had been, say Albert Hotchkiss, I should have noted 'tedious and amaterish...perhaps the most spectacularly untalented newcomer since Allen Barron' and let it go at that" Dwight Macdonald. Esquire 11/63.

A tally of the books i've read this year. (I stopped reading full on novels for a few years as my attention span was screwed up, glad to be back in the game.) RITUAL.jpg Ritual - David Pinner ( The book that The Wicker Man was based upon apparently, shares many elements but different enough to be interesting) William Burroughs - A report from the bunker - Victor Bockris Cities of the red night - William Burroughs The Job , interviews with William Burroughs - Daniel Oder 41DgjCN8Z2L._SX316_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg Out are the lights - Richard Laymon (pulp gore shock!, great fun.) The Electric cool aid acid test - Tom Wolfe On the road - Jack Kerouac The Jonah - James Herbert Go ask Alice - Anonymous (60's teenage runaway drugs bio) s-l1600.jpg Fluke - James Herbert (a Herbert i never read, really enjoyed this) Also read half of The Walking dead by Guy N Smith until i realised that - a - It was a sequel to a book i hadn't read and b - It was shit. Just started Herbert's The Survivor,i'm really enjoying his books lately, sharp and to the point, read quite a few as a teenager so been catching up with the ones i overlooked.

Quick question. Has anyone read Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman and do you recommend it? |

I’ve read it and I really liked it, it’s the proper Norse stories but not written by a stuffed shirt scholar. Very enjoyable.

I know it's not the same, but the audiobook (which he narrates) is excellent.

I'm doing something which I never do usually, read multiple books at once... The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, epic fantasy plotted around a scheme for underclassmen to overthrow the King Ruler and cause a civil war between the great houses. So far so good (around 60% in) and the first of a trilogy (Mistborn Triliogy) so I will definately be checking out the other 2 books. Death In Venice - A Queer Film Classic which is a short bio of Visconti and a critique of the film. Very interesting so far, quite a short book with plenty of pics. A quick re-read of Watchmen before I start watching the new HBO series which I almost started thinking it was a new adaptation of the original story but is actually a sequel so I held off. Need to re-familiarise myself, may even watch the movie again before the show. Been listening to the Trent Reznor soundtrack (without looking at the track names) and it's bloody amazing
