If the whole of the picture is exposed it makes reframing more difficult.Pulp Fiction was a film that originally suffered cuts for the widescreen version due to a drug injecting scene. The sequence would've been easier to reframe on the P & S version but it would prove impossible on the W/S release

Con Air had a throat-cutting shot on the plane reframed on the original MPAA 'R' rated theatrical version. The unrated re-issue dvd exposes the previously censored shot as Ving Rhames cuts the guard's throat with his hand-cuffs.

Eli Roth has written a lengthy and pretty good piece on the banning of his "Hostel Part II" in Germany on Myspace.

Apart from the bit about getting arrested for possessing the DVD (possession is legal, it's only selling and distribution which are strictly prohibited within Germany), he nails the sad scenario pretty accurately.

The next bloodsoaked genre outing is already out in censored form in Germany, but still short of any decent version about almost anywhere else (French disc has forced subs!):

"100 TEARS"

A maniac clown on the loose...? Can't wait to see that in UNCUT form...

Rated NC17 in the US.

Remains to be seen if it will pass uncut here.

They released it as NC17 in the states? - Brave!! lol

I thought they would have opted for the straight-to-DVD option - a la Switchblade Romance, Inside and Frontier(s).

It's always hard to call how the BBFC will approach an English language splatter film - it may end up like Samhain: The Legend of the Evil Breed (suffering some cuts to the gore) or might fly pss like the 'Saw' movies. - Hell, maybe it won't even be picked up for release here! lol

The average slasher film contains about a dozen murders, this film apparently contains about 50...and also throws in a few torture scenes for good measure.

Perhaps they opted for the NC17 after being informed that cuts for an R would remove almost everything.

As 'darkening' is sometimes used as a form of allowing a scene to remain uncut, has the extra resolution and clarity of BluRay and Hi Def caused any problems for the BBFC.?

Do you think the extra clarity and relativity cheap price of Hi Def players , SD DVD Upscaler's and HD TV pannels will give the BBFC another view to consider when rating future DVD's and BluRay disc's for home viewing ?

The Premature Burial has been passed intact at 15 by the BBFC for Optimum DVD release.

I stand to be corrected but I think this is the first official UK release since the cinema version which received cuts (as did most Poe adaptations) all those years ago. Bound to be restored now.

An excellent film in which the BBFC made some incredibly daft cuts to in the 60's.

Yes the BBFC cuts of the 60's for X-rated films make for incredibly daft and stupid reading. The funniest must be the removal of shots of a 'woman's mad face' in Homicidal and a closeup of 'Dracula's bloodstained teeth' in Taste The Blood Of Dracula.

What on earth was Trevelyan on at the time?
