Default crime pays

The two which stand out for me is Albery Finney in Gumshoe and Stacey Keach in The Squeeze.Honorable mention to Vic Dakin.

I see from the poll, which is quite dated now that GET CARTER remains the fave.

What do the more recent members of CL reckon?

GET CARTER or THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY?
Both surely?

Probably a toss up between Robbery and Brighton Rock for me.

Possibly blasphemous, but I generally don't care for British gangster films overall.

It's a genre i love. From The Blue Lamp and Payroll, through Get Carter and Violent Playground up to present day efforts like We Still Kill The Old Way.

British cinema is as good as anybodies.

Agree 100% - it was only British gangster cinema that I was referring to here.

I'll build my British crime collection off that poll list.

No question about it, GET CARTER (1971) still rules.

Long live Mike Hodges!

I started watching The Sweeney TV series. Watched both films and two seasons so far. Rewatch value extremely high. Man, this show rules.
