Does anyone remember the excellent X-Com: UFO Defense (aka Enemy Unknown)?

That's the one.

You had to build and defend a base against UFO invasions. It was voted the best PC game of all time a few years ago, and it's still great fun today.

Way above my head but it looked like an enjoyable game.

I must be a grunt too. Took me ages to learn the controls.

I love the early Tomb Raider games too but playing them on a PC was horrendous. The controls were unbelievable. I used to end up looking like I was playing Twister.

PC's are excellent for FPS games though.

Anybody currently into , or have owned at some time , any of the cult classic retro machines like 3DO, Jaguar, Neo Geo, cart or cd or any other pre Playstation console that wasn't mainstream.?

I had probably what i'd rate as my 2 all time favourite consoles , 3DO, & Jaguar, plus a Virtual Boy (Awfull) and a cracking hand held , the Gizmondo.

My mate had a Philip's CDI i think you called it , but I remember it being pretty naff.

I didn't own them myself, too young, but I stole my uncles 3DO, Jaguar and Neo Geo once he was through with them! ha ha.

3DO is the greatest consol ever. I have the FZ-1 and the FZ-10 rocking and rolling, I still play Gex and Return Fire!

There must be something in the water...

3DO was a God awful console - horrible controllers, terrible games and a ridiculously high price tag (people who complain about the PS3's high price tag obviously are too young to remember the 3DO).

The Jaguar was a console powered by lies - Also bundled with an awful controller and plagued by crap games.

CDI - more overpriced crap, crap games, crap controller... a glorified CD player.

CD32 - A stripped down Amiga A1200 with a CD player bolted on.

Outside of The Playstation, Sega Saturn and N64, the Fifth Gen console releases were one massive shower of shite

The Neo Geo was good though, as was the PC Engine... But they're fourth gen releases.

JAG, lies,? ' Do the Maths' , to me they add up to 64.

You know that if it wasn't for 3DO gaming would still be a 'geek' passtime and not a multi million dollar industry that out preforms the music industry in the high street.
Yes 3DO was expensive, but it was uber cool.

Yes the original 3DO pad was poor , but with a headphones socket in it with Vol. control , you were to immersed to care because it was pure escapist fun in a quality never seen before.
This was R.E.A.L. ( sorry, couldn't resist it)
