Yes, they earth themselves via the band to the main metal frame of the PC. This is also for when working in the PC when it's powered up, so that you don't electrocute yourself.

Ok...got a new (used) laptop (a real heavy beast with a 17" screen and a pain to carry around imho but luckily I use my laptops as desktops) today for free.

Looks to be in fine working order overall, thinking about maybe doing a clean install (all discs are still with it).

What I wanted to ask was:
Does anyone know which one has the better (or faster) processor?

My Dell Latitude D600
Pentium M
x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 8 GenuineIntel ~1498 Mhz processor
Dothan 0.09 µm (90 nm) process technology
Pentium M 715

2005

My HP Pavillion ZD7000
Mobile Pentium 4
x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9 GenuineIntel ~2992 Mhz processor

2004?

Graphics wise:

Dell:
Mobility Radeon 9000

HP:
Nvidia Geforce FX GO 2500

Here's a vid (not mine) of the HP

Anyone?
Btw installed the 1 Gb Komputerbay ram stick (that wouldn't work before) in the HP and it works fine!
Glad I didn't send it back yet.
Seems my Latitude D600's ram slots are a bit picky...

I again tried to install the Komputerbay ram in my D600 but it won't work...however did manage to install another 1Gb stick that was in the HP.
So now I have 1.5 Gb ram in my D600.

I'll probably decide which one I'm going to keep as my main and as a backup from the 3 running laptops I now own in the week to come, the least powerful one (still decent enough though) will go to a mate who only needs it for browsing the net and is currently using a borrowed laptop.

I've been using a free program called advanced system care lately (Iobit) and I'd recommend it to keep your computer running smoothly.
If you're a computer novice just do a regular care/scan but more computer savvy members might want to give the expert mode a go (as well as the ultra handy toolbox).

Btw go into the settings to avoid it starting at startup and the little performance console popping up.
Windows XP users might want to go to settings and move the transparency (in user interface) completely to the left in the bar for best results.

Expert mode (settings tab to the right of the little shirt icon btw):
I would uncheck disk defrag since it can take a while (maybe do that periodically when you have lots of time):

Getting the start button/menu back and bypassing the Metro screen in Windows 8 + improving functionality.
Thought this could come in handy since I know several people who struggled with the Metro interface...

Btw Classic Shell can also be used on Windows 7

It doesn't work on Windows 8 RTM though.

Welcome to Classic Shell

Does anyone know a free program to update or install drivers?
Something better than the program I've been having some troubles with (Slimdrivers) on my second newly installed laptop?
I'm missing 4 drivers (1 is the modem so actually 3)...

Btw I'm looking for XP compatible drivers.

Found all the drivers at the Dell site, just had to go for slightly older drivers as the latest ones won't work on XP...

Btw cleaned the fans of the HP laptop (a real heavy beast) I just recently did a fresh install on and about 20 mins later it was sold.
3 laptops was just too much.

I'm using my Dell Latitude D600 as my main machine now with a Dell Inspiron 1300 as backup.

This could be very simple actually.

Do you have Real player Gag.?

It could well be that. Real player can slow computers to a standstill even when you aren't using it.

If you want to try removing it to check do this -

alt/control/ delete/
Processes
click on realsched.exe
then click end process

You can do the same with all real exe processes.

This may help if its not a serious computer issue.
