I have been spending more money than I really should have, so these are my recent arrivals from Powerhouse Films (in the 3 for £15 offer), Amazon (Scream and Scream Again), and eBay (Ocean's 8).

The latter was only £3.25, so I thought it was worth it as a blind buy.

Of all the Indicator films, the only ones I've seen are the Norman J Warren ones, Sweet Charity (a superb musical romantic comedy), and The Camp on Blood Island (a tough but rewarding watch, and a surprise that I didn't already own it).

I am surprised and a little ashamed that I haven't seen either of the John Carpenter films, though that will be rectified in due course.

Demdike@Cult Labs 23rd November 2023 03:39 PM

@ Nosferatu - I really enjoyed Oceans 8. Thought it was a refreshing change.

Not saying it's a great film or anything but i liked it.

iank 23rd November 2023 08:09 PM

Sent off for a bunch of Vincent Price movies. I've seen a couple of his (Last Man on Earth and Theatre of Blood, both of which I liked) but I feel I am far too unfamiliar with most of his when compared to the likes of Cushing and Lee.

Did you go for the Arrow Six Gothic Tales collection?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Six-Gothic-...%2C1400&sr=1-1

I highly recommend the StudioCanal Blu-ray of Masque of the Red Death. It's a really good package and to put it bluntly the picture quality is f*cking gorgeous.

The Oblong Box and the Aussie version of The Vincent Price Collection which has nine movies in it including Witchfinder General, Masque of the Red Death and House of Usher, among others.

I didn't think much Ocean's 12 or Ocean's 13 – the former really became silly when Tess Ocean (Julia Roberts) pretended to be Julia Roberts without any of the other characters saying "Wow, that's Julia Roberts! Danny Ocean is a dead ringer for George Clooney, Rusty looks just like Brad Pitt, and isn't that Don Cheadle with an unconvincing English accent?"

I'm going to watch Ocean's 8 without any preconceptions and hope it's as enjoyable as the first.

J Harker 23rd November 2023 11:06 PM

I haven't watched it in years but I really liked Ocean's 11.
Ocean's 12 was boring and 13...meh, ok I suppose, better than 12 by far but totally forgettable.
Ocean's 8 however, dismal. I just didn't see a point to it, didn't work for me on any level.

It looks like Indicator have done a design f*ck-up there, as out of the Jean Rollin releases so far Lips of Blood is the only one with writing on the outer case artwork. Can't believe they intended that based on their obsession for consistency? The only other possibility is that they thought by removing the writing it would leave too much blank space?

It could be worse, Rob.

It could be that Magic Crystal artwork.

Justin101 27th November 2023 06:31 PM

I think that the poster they used doesn't lend itself to removing the text which is unfortunate. Annoyingly, it's my favourite of his vampire films and my least favourite poster.

I really like the art in itself but I don't think it matches the tone of the movie. I have a feeling someone said it was from a French comic and was reused for the movie but I might be misremembering that.

Who released Horror Workout, Stephen?

Looks great and i've never seen it. The 88 dvd of Chainsaw Hookers didn't have it on unlike the Blu.

Just need the Scream Queen Hot Tub Party on Blu now. :xmasbanana:

I think it's the one from Terror Vision. The slipcase is sold out on their website.

Yep, Terror Vision. Run by Brad Henderson, formerly of Vinegar Syndrome.

It's not great and I think I've only seen it once, but I can understand wanting it for novelty/curiosity value.

I watched it on the Chainsaw Hookers blu-ray. I'm interested to see how this one looks. Three versions included.

From the back of the case:

Main Version (720p/60): This is the original master tape, deinterlaced, and scaled using a method that preserves how it would have originally looked when shot.
• SD version (4801/60): A direct capture of the original master tape, encoded in standard definition.
• Al Upscaled version (10801/60): A new upscaled version with a sharper image.

I've only seen it on the 88 Films Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers Blu-ray so I would be interested to hear what you make of the different versions on this Terror Vision Blu-ray release.

It does. However the reviews are not kind.

DNR is not your friend.

"This is the worst "restoration" / transfer I have seen in 2023" said The Big Movie House.com.

Although I'm annoyed that they have only been releasing Inside No. 9 on DVD since series four and are no longer using the Blu-ray format, I bought the DVD of series five some time ago and bought series six and seven last week.

It's a TV show that doesn't grow old or suffer very badly from repeated viewings. There are some episodes where I forget the twist and enjoy them as much on second viewing as on the first, and others where knowing the dénouement allows you to appreciate the quality of the writing and performing.
