The Last Chase is a nice find, think that's sold out?

Beware that the first pressing was recalled (pressing mishap/audio out-of-sync) and the second pressing has a sticker over the upc:"it should have a new UPC sticker placed over the original UPC code. If you see that, it is the corrected version.'

The reason why there's no CR left in most shops (except a few obscure ones and Amazon) is that their distributor quit dealing with dvd distribution some time ago and most shops just returned their stock...
Amazon was the only webshop according to Bill who actually ordered more CR dvd's when the distributor quit (with no return option) and seems they did well with them. ;)

its getting there slowly :P i have made a decision and i wil not pay more than £6 for a BD unless i know i will either watch it a lot or im not ever going to get it cheaper, after selling all my dvds this last month , i was shocked to see how many i didnt mind selling and how much cash i have wasted on them all these years.

i have gone from having about 1300 dvds to 300 in the lsat year, would hate to do it again with blu rays :fear:

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 6th May 2012 10:49 AM

I've upgraded so many titles from DVD to BD over the past few years it would take me a while to see how many I now own on both formats. However, the collector in me doesn't want to part with a single DVD and keep that collection intact whilst now concentrating on BDs for everything which isn't available in high definition or about to be released in HD.

Just picked up the 9 disc Star Wars box today.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 6th May 2012 11:12 AM

I watched WAR HORSE last night, and it's a cracking fable!
Only Spielberg could make a horse the central character of an almost 3 hour film!

The scene where Toby Kebbel and the German emerge from the trenches to free Joey from the wire was genius.

Well I just checked and I think it might be the first pressing since I bought this used ( but the dvd was unopened ) I am not sure what I can do if it does happen to have issues.

I guess I just have to hope for the best.

I'll watch anything with Peter Weller and John Lithgow in even if it is crap. This lot came to around £14.00 including postage.

car boot stall. £2.50.

Total steal at that price. Trying to flog it on amazon, I have all the discs individually so If it sells I'll have me some spending money for axel or a bunch of the forthcoming arrow blus!

car boots are always worth a go, the trick is to get up as early as possible (at least 7am.) then be prepared to get jostled by the pensioners who've seen one too many episodes of bargain hunt and fancy themselves antiques dealers.

Demdike@Cult Labs 6th May 2012 10:28 PM

Some jokers selling the same Halloween box set on Amazon for £35.

Your find was a bargain Keirarts.

the two westerns are actually region free...

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 7th May 2012 07:23 AM

Really good selection of region coded discs. Which you plan to watch first, or haven't you thought about that yet?

:D

Theres some chancers out there!!

To be fair i'm undercutting (or at least was until ZOVERSTOCKS gets a mint condition one and undercuts me) most people on there and if it sells, well theres a lot of arrow blu's and a growing axel wishlist that needs taking care of!

oaxaca 7th May 2012 08:05 AM

Cheers. Definitely going to watch Kuroneko first as, having recently watched Eureka's Ugetsu Monogatari, I'm really in the mood for some atmospheric Japanese ghost stories at the moment. Plus I've wanted to watch it for years but never got round to buying/renting Eureka's DVD release of it.

After that I'll been keen to check out the AV on Vampire Circus (a hammer film I rate highly). I used to have Koch's German BD release but wasn't very impressed by it, I'm hoping the US has a different transfer?

oaxaca 7th May 2012 08:11 AM

I got very tempted to order Dragon Dynasty's (Vivendi's) release of 36th Chamber of Shaolin, as it was a good film plus one of the last VHS' I owned but the transfer has got very bad reviews, the last 15 mins supposedly has a yellow sheen across the picture, has lots of colour bleed and to top it off is only in 1080i, not that I have a full HD telly :p

I have Wizards and Fire and Ice – both look very good in HD, not that they are the types of film to really showcase the Blu-ray format! The soundtracks are very impressive. Also, I have the Eureka DVD of Gandahar and should probably watch all three back-to-back in chronological order.

Sam 7th May 2012 09:06 AM

Just placed another order with axel whilst they've still got the free shipping offer. Less than £9 delivered:

Alone in the Dark (1982)
Midnight Horror Collection (Curtains/Hoboken Hollow/Secrets of the Clown/Room 33)

I bought the latter for Curtains but I've seen Hoboken Hollow and it was passable - plus Secrets of the Clown looks like a laugh!

The guy who did Gandahar has 2 more films released by Eureka, can't remember them though. One had the big blue people in it.

Alone in the dark is fantastic. Why no uk release has materialised is beyond me. The 4 film set is good fun as well. Curtains is still pretty poor quality picture wise but good luck ever finding a good quality print to buy!

Completely agree – that would make the fourth film in an afternoon/evening's watch.

If you're looking for it on Eureka's website, it was released under the French title of La Planete Sauvage.

Thank you!!! His name was on the tip of tongue!!

Speaking of quality animation, many one seen The Thief And The Cobbler, preferably the workprint or the Recobbled Cut, not the godawful Arabian Knight or Princess and the Cobbler version? Absolutely brilliant film that I would kill for on blu ray. Fully restored original version of course.

I really want to pick up those Roger Corman sets - they look awesome. Do they just have the films on or are there any extras too?

bdc 7th May 2012 11:10 AM

The early titles all have lots of extras, the later ones have less extras.

This one has 2 discs so here are the extras on each disc:

disc 1 Eat My Dust
• New Interview with star Ron Howard (16:9; 15:15)
• How to Crash on a Dime: The Making of EAT MY DUST (4:3; 9:31)
• Leonard Maltin interviews Roger Corman (4:3; 2:59)
• The Illustrated Man: a conversation with Corman poster artist John Solie (16:9; 13:03)
• Theatrical Trailer (4:3; 1:00)

disc 2 Grand Theft Auto
• Introduction by Roger Corman (4:3; 0:35)
• Audio Commentary with Ron Howard and Roger Corman
• Audio Commentary with actor/co-writer Rance Howard, second unit director Allan Arkush, editor Joe Dante, and key grip Ben Haller
• A Family Affair: an interview with Rance Howard and Clint Howard (4:3; 8:39)
• Interview with Ron Howard and Roger Corman (4:3; 13:39)
• Leonard Maltin Interviews Roger Corman (4:3; 5:30)
• Theatrical Trailer (4:3; 2:18)
• TV Spot 1 (4:3; 0:30)
• TV Spot 2 (4:3; 0:30)

I love Eat My Dust which is a great carsploitation coming-of-age movie imho. ;)
I've never seen Grand Theft Auto I think so that will be a surprise.
