I'm still awaiting the arrival of my copy! :couch:

Stephen@Cult Labs 10th November 2009 11:49 AM

Finally got around to watching My Night Of The Creeps blu-ray yesterday and can't recommend it enough.Picture quality is excellent and no hint of DNR in sight. Some of the night time scenes are quite grainy and imo it looks lovely, very film-like.This is the first time i've seen the director's original ending (restored back into the film on this blu-ray) and I'm torn as to which one I like better but I think i'd go with the theatrical (dog) ending (if only for that fact that it would be easier to bring a character back if Fred Dekker ever got the chance to do a sequel) .It's just a pity that it's only available as an extra on the disc and you can't watch it as part of the film.

I listened to the commentary with writer/director Fred Dekker and played the trivia track alongside it.The commentary is pretty entertaining and the trivai track quite informative, for example,I didn't relaize that actress Jill Whitlow was in Porky's and also played the perfume seller in Weird science (don't know how I missed that one!).

Thrill Me: Making Night Of The Creeps is a great 1 hour documentary split into 5 parts and looks at the genesis of the project, casting the actors, creating the creeps and also a look at the recent screening at the Alamo Draughthouse, where a few fans are interviewed following the screening, including one guy who seems a little down now that his NOTC laserdisc that he paid a hefty sum for is now worthless lol.The doc also discusses the director's cut ending so if you haven't seen it, don't watch the doc beforehand or get ready to shut your eyes and cover you ears for a few minutes like I had to.

Next up is 7 deleted scenes that have been shown in tv versions of the movie and I would have loved to have seen most of them put back iinto the film, especially the ones with Tom Atkins' detective Cameron. You can never have enough Tom Atkins :)

And last, but certainly not least is Tom Atkins:Man Of Action where Tom discusses his career and talks about some of his favourite roles. It's a great piece and well worth watching if you're a fan (and who wouldn't be?)

So all in all,a really solid release for one of the best cult films from the 80's and although it's taken a while to get the treatment it deserves,It was well worth the wait

(p.s. It's coded for regions A,B and C)

Just grabbed the Anchor Bay boxset for Coffin Joe. 9 films for £20? Yes please!!

42ndStreetFreak 10th November 2009 12:48 PM

So does this NOT have the 'dog' ending then?

I hated that ending. Stupidly, needlessly downbeat ending to a fun time film that then ultimately wasted Atkin's actions at the end.

Stephen@Cult Labs 10th November 2009 01:37 PM

The dog ending is on the disc as an extra, not as part of the film. The film has Fred Dekkers original ending restored (changed my last post to make it a little clearer) :)

I was tempted to buy this but apparently there are issues with the picture quality and blurring issues? The are a couple of reviews up on Amazon that say it's a pretty abyssmal box set so I have avoided buying it for that reason. Could you let us know how the picture quality is please?

Thanks.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 10th November 2009 09:30 PM

According to Vince,it IS abysmal.Perhaps he can confirm later....
But at a score,it was too good an offer....;)

LineSix 10th November 2009 09:33 PM

It's only £13.88 on Amazon at the moment, which is why I am asking, if the films are watchable/enjoyable I will go for it at that price.

Yes there are a lot of problems with the motion blur, and it stands out more with the black/white films. Personally I don't mind it too much and you get used to it after a while, but it's a shame really. :ohwell:

pedromonkey 11th November 2009 12:21 AM

amazon and ebay, they have some great deals on the shriek show triples, most of 'em are less than a tenner. friday 13th 2-4 were 2.98 each, so i thought hey what a bargain i'll snap those up, i won't be doing an order like that again until credit card's paid off.....seriously though check out amazon at the moment, they have some really good prices on horror,

I did! The film is wonderous, as ever. Better made and acted than I remember though! I had forgotten how much Lee Majors comes across as a Poundland Clint Eastwood in it.

The DVD-R looks like it was taken from a panned and scanned Japanese laserdisc (or exceptionally mint VHS), so good audio, OK if a bit fuzzy video, forced but unobtrusive Japanese subtitles but compromised framing. The film really, really needs a 16:9 release. The 4:3 version was very cramped and looked quite wrong to me.

I'm glad I finally saw it again, but this is only a stop gap until I force someone to release a decent version!

42ndStreetFreak 11th November 2009 09:02 PM

Lucky man!!

"The Wolf Man" - Universal. Upgrade from VHS dupe.

"Miracle Mile" - Shockingly ignored little gem that is masterfully crafted, well acted and that manages to expertly combine excitement, laughs and tears
A long time fave. Upgrade from VHS dupe.

"Unarmed and Dangerous" - Brit martial arts/gangster flick with a stumpy armed 'Thalidomide' victim as its ass kicking, Kung Fu, hero!

Finished watching Machine Girl on BR a few mins ago. Its really fantastic. Its about a girl who gets her arm chopped off for trying to get back at her brothers killers, she comes back at them for revenge with a machinece gun arm.Tonnes of blood drenched top gore, some cool martial arts, and a load of over the top evil Yakuza just dying to be slaughtered. I belive this was made by the same people as Tokyo Gore Police and Meatball Machines. These guys have obviously learned their trade watching early Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi as the gore and style are very reminissent of Bad Taste and Evil Dead. There is also an excellent homage to Master of The Flying Guillotine with the main Yakuza boss uing the fatal weapon to decapitate and remove limbs.

I reccomend this to eveyone!!! :thumb:

That is a sweet deal! I am jealous!

Never seen the Spanish take of "Dracula".

I love "Dracula's Daughter" - awesome Gloria Holden performance! Haven't seen it for a very long time, sadly.

Yeah, nice find in CEX.

Never seen the Spanish "Drac" either.
Heard that the lead is not as good as Lugosi, but that many other aspects are better than the Lugosi version.
We shall see!

I have The r2 Monster Legacy Collection with the resin busts.I picked up The Mummy,Creature & Invisible Man Legacy sets on r1 over a year ago. It's a bloody disgrace that the remaining Mummy (All bar the '32 original) ,Creature (Walks Among Us is not available here) & Invisible Man (All bar the original)films are unavailable in the UK.The Invisible Man ones are particularly recommended. The Mummy films with the exception of the original & The Mummy's Hand are mediocre.

That's a really good boxset you bought there! All the films are excellent - although I'm not that fond of Stagefright - but still all great!
