Paul, are all three Blus upgrades of DVDs ? I made a descision early on that I was not gonna upgrade a DVD to Blu if I could help it. I'm going nuts I have all those Bava films already... This is definitely a great time to put a Horror collection together with so much HD stuff coming out...

No, TCM2 and Black Sunday aren't. I'd been after the R1 dvd edition of TCM2 for a while as I fancied a revisit of it but didn't really want to pay £7-£10 for it. Managed to get the bluray for about £7 which is decent. Like you say, great time for horror collections.

Like you, when I first got a bluray player I was dead against upgrading my films but have done so for a lot of my favourites. It really does give the films a new lease of life.

I've just preordered the limited edition Alfred Hitchcock Collection from HMV. £100 may sound like a lot but, with 14 BDs and cool packaging, it seems like good value.

£100 would get you 30 minutes with me

That is much better value!!!!!!!

I had the shipping confirmation e-mail last week, so it should arrive today.

I went for the one with the T-shirt as it was just under £8 more than the standard set, so a really good price for the piece of clothing.

I'm currently keeping my fingers crossed that my Night of the Living Dead (1990) BD comes through Customs unscathed as, otherwise, I'll end up paying even more for the TT set.

Evilspeak is one of the better former video nasties IMO.The version oaxaca has is quite heavily cut though, I seem to recall.Unfortunately I think the ABUK set is now out of print.

SharonLynette 2nd October 2012 10:16 AM

More stuff arrived today - I have now spent as much of my wages as I can, £100 left for the month isn't bad going! I'm still expecting a lot more stuff though

Plenty of good stuff and a guilty pleasure, and I'm not talking about Manimal!

I was worried it wouldn't arrive as it's such a bargain, I tend to avoid posting what I've ordered now just in case it never arrives!

And my final orders of the month:

Wes 2nd October 2012 10:42 AM

Fantastic double-header Paul, I went multi-region a forthnight ago and these are on my list of things-to-get... I'll be happy to fling out my R2 MGM equivalents...

I've recently gone Blu, and had made up my mind not to upgrade my collection except for a few favourite films but...seeing the difference in films such as "The Witchfinder General" on Blu compared to DVD, I'm very tempted to up grade more older films than new.

Wes 2nd October 2012 11:03 AM

Yeah, some things I will upgrade - all my Tarkovskys, and stuff like The Devils, Performance, Eraserhead, and budget DVD editions vs well-stacked Blus... but I just can't afford to upgrade say my Bavas, or my Twilight Zones... Thankfully, I never picked up any Jean Rollin or Wong-Kar Wei due to variable DVD transfers so I'm enjoying these two film makers in HD at the moment...

Also I try to avoid picking up anything that I can see on Film4 every forthnight...

I had a problem like that, with DVDs frequently being 'lost in the post'. I went to the sorting office and spoke to the manager, who took my concerns seriously and put a system in place whereby he would phone me every couple of days to see what was delivered. Apparently, some action was taken (probably something along the lines of Royal Mail employee caught pocketing DVDs and sacked) and my orders were then delivered hassle-free.

There are some real bastards out there.

Manimal kicks ass! I haven't seen the series since I watched it as a kid on TV in the '80s.

Say, where we all getting this Texas Chainsaw 2 set from?
Watched this on the plane to Japan, and wasn't dissapointed at all.

Edit: ignore. Crossed wires

Can't seem to edit my previous post - ignore it as I got my wires crossed there.

I was so excited when I found out it was going to be released, I've waited a couple of months and the price hasn't gone down so I've really splashed out on it but it's worth it, even if there were only 8 episodes. After seeing the concept notes for Manimal I have decided to refer to my drunken ideas as 'concept notes', it sounds classier.

These came in the post today :)

*no special features (trailer doesn't count as a special feature)

Attachment 83220 (my mum brought this film up in a conversation I was having with her. I bought it for her, but I'll watch it after her as it seems really good)*

Attachment 83221*Attachment 83222*(except interview with director Michael Haneke)

Attachment 83223* (A.K.A. Anthropophagus: The beast) Attachment 83224 (I just took a photo of the disc because it looked a bit like a pirate :D)

Attachment 83232*Attachment 83243

I have never seen any of these films.

I bought the American remake a few month ago, but refused to watch it until I saw the original (I'm weird like that).

Wes 2nd October 2012 02:43 PM

Cannibal Apocalypse is a classic and features a nifty method for putting out tear gas lobbed in your direction....you never know.....

ArgentoFan1987 2nd October 2012 03:01 PM

I was thinking of something differen for a change and try watching them in chronological or alphabetical order or something.

I just wanted to add that I have Arrow Video to the k for me fining this place and meeting all you awesome people, because if I hadn't bought Phenomena on DVD, this place would've remained unknown to me.

Thank you, Arrow!!!!

I'd save that Grim Reaper disc until you need to scrape ice from anywhere in the winter, that way it won't have been a waste of money ;)

Pete 2nd October 2012 03:05 PM

CA is a great film. AXE is too

That UK DVD of ANTHROPOPHAGUS is the heavily cut version. The 2 disc Shriek Show release is the one to get!

How much is cut?

Pete 2nd October 2012 03:12 PM

From what I remember pretty much everything.

Yup, that's the only version that's been released on DVD here. :(

Rik 2nd October 2012 03:28 PM

Any version released here is cut to ribbons, like Pete says, the best way to go is the Shriek Show R1 two disc set, that is until Arrow decide to release a full uncut extras filled 3 disc Blu Ray with free George Eastman beard mask!

Pete 2nd October 2012 03:30 PM

A George Eastman beard mask would be the greatest thing ever!

I think that releases on that particular label, which I think is Fantastic Films, rarely drop to the kind of low levels that many other releases fall to, so I know what you mean. I'm still waiting for Tales of the Gold Monkey to fall significantly as well.

Yes, I think we've all written concept notes on that proviso!
