Worse when it's a unique yellow box and a blue amaray wont work for replacement.

Yep! One of my Shameless cases won't hold the disc properly. I wonder if they'd send out replacements if asked nicely? Not sure how to contact them.

Rik 23rd January 2013 05:27 PM

You can buy yellow DVD/BD cases on ebay for a couple of quid :)

Watched it yesterday evening and I agree, it does look amazing. And it sounds amazing too, John Williams composed the best score for this film imaginable.
There is one scene is this film that explains my love for cinema. That is when Samuel Quint tells about what has happened to him on the USS Indianapolis. The way Robert Shaw acts is spine chilling... Don't really know how to explain this but it touches me every time I see it.

Its one of the best films ever made.

Anyone know if there's a way to change the language to English on Amazon.de?

I agree! And this scene (three man in a boat ("you're going to need a bigger boat")), surrounded by danger is one of the highlights.
The scene where they are showing their scars and when Hooper tells about his broken heart scar, followed by:
Chief Brody: [pointing at Quint's tattoo scar] What's that one?
Quint: Oh, that's a tattoo. I got that removed.
Hooper: No, Don't tell me. Don't tell me. Mother! [laughs]
Quint: To Hooper, that's the U.S.S. Indianapolis.
[Hooper's face drops]
And the way his face drops and how this rotates the atmosphere by a 180 degrees is just incredible. How it connects with their situation they're in.

(English is not my native language and it is hard to explain things like this, if it sounds silly, please excuse me.)

Rik 23rd January 2013 11:02 PM

I haven't bought owt for at least a week, so I'm gonna go check out the bargains in CEX tomorrow after the school run before the universe implodes

I get what your saying Jaws is full of very powerful scenes just like that one.

I have just read this on IMBD (the forum section):
+++
The scene provides a terrifying edge to Quint's character, and it also clearly adds to Hooper and Sheriff Brody's growing sense of panic. They now see from this point onward that Quint is clearly as much of a danger to them as is the shark.
+++
very true!

Just a section from an article about the 30th anniversary of Jaws

And the shark wasn’t the only problem. Veteran screen legend Robert Shaw apparently didn’t warm to Richard Dreyfuss all that much and so the atmosphere on set was often tense. Add to that the fact that many reports tell of Robert Shaw having a wee bit too much to drink on occasion and you can seen that Spielberg had his hands full. In fact, Shaw originally insisted on having his first stab at the famous ‘Indianapolis’ speech totally drunk. It was a shambles of course – he ended up rambling on about his family apparently – and had to be reshot in the morning, but apparently Shaw was very apologetic about it all the same.

Talking about the ‘Indianapolis’ speech, that was the one section of the script that caused real concern. Neither Bentley, the author of the novel, or Carl Gottlieb, the script-writer on the project could agree on the dialogue, which was a major cause for concern. Ironic it must have been, then, when Robert Shaw delivered his interpretation of the speech and it was exactly what everybody had wanted.

EAT MY BRAINS - Jaws - 30th Anniversary edition Review

I had heard of Robert Shaws hard drinking so it makes his scenes even better that he could pull himself together to do such an amazing job.

I saw it on its first run - but luckily it was on a double bill with Gregory's Girl, which more than made up for the borefest that was Chariots of Fire. We only stuck it out because we wanted to see Gregory's Girl!

If you use google chrome for your browser it will detect a foreign language and ask if you would like it translated, it's not perfect but works fine for shopping, give it a try!

A fine purchase Nordic, you'll probably want seasons two and three as well. Season one is set in the forties whereas the following two are in the present. (well the seventies anyway)

I am, yes. Since January 10, I've been watching all the Best Picture winners as I set myself a challenge to watch them all before the Oscars ceremony. It's going really well!

Have my day off work ready for this years one.

Hawkmonger 24th January 2013 02:19 PM

I have to say, unlike most of Spilebergs work, or most movies considered 'The Best', Jaws live's up to it's reputation and it truely a magnificent piece of cinema almost unriveld in term's of sheer excelence. The BD is a stunner to BTW!:hail:
