Allegro Music

Amazon.com don't have them either. Just one copy for sale used at $20.

If these have been pulled from sale then i am absolutely delighted mine arrived today. Result!!!!

Just got out of a Consumer Behaviour test with 88% and my GF was waiting with some dvds for me as a surprise for doing well :-) Here they are:

It was a great surprise and was really sweet that she remembered that I am trying to get an original MGM dvd collection.

I love the Long Goodbye. That can be a hard find now. I was ecstatic when I managed to get it. Awesome pick ups!!!!

Stephen@Cult Labs 28th November 2012 07:16 PM

Another German action cult uncut dvd added to the collection, Off Limits, with the original Saigon title used outside the US on the cover (the film still says Off Limits though).

Did not even know this one was out!! I totally dropped the ball missing this. Sounds like theres lots more plot in this extended version, I have a real hard time imagining any more viloence! The best Rambo film since first blood imo. only £7.79 from moviemars btw, worth the risk.

keirarts 28th November 2012 11:12 PM

Just had a quick look through the Anchor bay BLu-ray of the origional MOTHERS DAY.

Unfortunately for some region locked, the film looks STUNNING on blu-ray. I know thats probably an over-used term but it really does look great. If you can play multi-region blu's this one is highly reccomended. Great introduction from Cahrles Kaufman showing much of the ready Kaufman wit his brother Lloyd exhibits on the Troma discs!

Since the kids were a bit bored with Scorsese's HUGO, I wonder what they will make of this lot from the 5 for £30 Blu-ray section in HMV.

GANGS OF NEW YORK
THE DEPARTED
THE AVIATOR
GOODFELLAS
TAXI DRIVER

Jinx_Barkman 29th November 2012 04:49 AM

I had some bonus points to use on a movie club site so I managed to get both of these for $2.99.

There isn't any more violence, in fact, it's been toned down slightly in this version.

Finally ordered another Criterion, as the two on my shelf were getting lonely - Godzilla.
I don't know how you UK Criterion fiends do it, these things are far too expensive!

Tell me about it!
I only own 4 at the moment. Just bought 2 few weeks ago.
Great packages though.

antmumford 29th November 2012 07:11 AM

I haven't bought a single Criterion and I do have a multi-region player so what would you guys recommend as my first dip in the Criterion water? What is most probably THE best film they've released? A hard question I know but to be honest I don't think I've seen a single film in their collection other than Wages of Fear and Videodrome. I like all films from all genres so I can't even help you narrow it down a bit, sorry. :o

Their release of Blow Out is fantastic and one of my all-time favourite thrillers

This will probably come as no surprise coming from me, but it's a great film and the Masters of Cinema release is easily the best available. Top purchase!

Night of the Hunter, one of the best films ever made.

I'll have a look at the ones I own and see which I consider essential.

Refused 29th November 2012 08:28 AM

Admittedly, I don't even know anything about the majority of titles Criterion release. I need to do some research, I'm sure there's heaps of phenomenal releases but I'm always hesitant to blind buy due to the price.
Tempted to go for some of the samurai films though, and Wes Anderson ones too.

I really need to pick this up, the version I have has a shitty score and although it only cost me a couple of quid from CEX, this one seems to be the way to go

Well CEX sell it for £8, Fopp for £15, Amazon £16 but the Eureka website has it for £8.99 at the moment.

Know how you feel! There's at least four others on that website alone that I'm eyeing up! The fact that it's payday tomorrow isn't helping :(

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 29th November 2012 02:07 PM

I own the following Criterion Collection titles on Blu-ray:

Army of Shadows
The Battle of Algiers
Beauty and the Beast
Being John Malkovich
Black Moon
Black Narcissus
Blow out
Bottle Rocket
Cronos
Cul-de-Sac
Days of Heaven
Dazed and Confused
8 1/2
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
The 400 Blows
The Game
Godzilla
Gomorrah
Harakiri
Harold and Maude
High and Low
if….
Island Of Lost Souls
Kagemusha
Kes
The Killing
Kiss Me Deadly
The Night of the Hunter
Paris, Texas
Paths of Glory
The Phantom Carriage
The Red Shoes
Repulsion
Rosemary's Baby
The Royal Tenenbaums
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom
Sanjuro
Seven Samurai
The Seventh Seal
Solaris
Stagecoach
Sweet Smell of Success
The Thin Red Line
The 39 Steps
Tokyo Drifter
12 Angry Men
Videodrome
The Wages of Fear
Walkabout
Wings of Desire
World on a Wire
Yojimbo

I really want to buy Rushmore and several others. Of those I have, the best would include The Wages of Fear, Seven Samurai, The Battle of Algiers and Dazed and Confused. In terms of DVDs, I'd have to single out Vampyr and Two-Lane Blacktop just because of the massive books which come with them.

Had missed it the first or even second time it popped up on the Black Friday deals on Amazon but it was on again on Sunday so I managed to get it for £22.50!

Rik 29th November 2012 05:29 PM

Such a cracking set too and half the price I paid for the coffin set, which is now bloody expensive everywhere!

Paul@TheOverlook 29th November 2012 05:30 PM

That's quite a list, Nos ;)

I only have three, and by sheer coincidence were the first to be recommended above:

Videodrome
Blow Out
Night of the Hunter

I know, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll never get the coffin set so at least this was so cheap. You never know, in years to come I might find someone randomly selling the coffin on ebay for pennies.

Mojo 29th November 2012 05:40 PM

The Blood Beast Terror

Peter Cushing lends an air of respectability ( and tries to keep a straight face ) in this ( admittedly enjoyable ) nonsense. I haven't seen the US Redemption disc, but I'd be surprised if it beats this edition - it looks stunning.

Another cracker from Odeon. Can't wait to see what they do with Blood On Satan's Claw.
