As long as i'm not stuck on a desert island with Tom Hanks i'm good.
Scarlett Johanson is a different matter, i'd eat that even if i wasn't hungry.

What an incredibly sexist and misogynistic comment

I'm sure what you meant to say is: "Scarlett Johanson is a different matter, i'd eat HER even if i wasn't hungry"

That small alteration would make your comment acceptable!

I'm not a great war film fan, My dad and brother used to watch war films and westerns all the time as a kid. Because of this i went towards horror and cult.
So i've seen loads but because i was small most of them seemed to blend together.
Consequently it is the gritty or unusual ones that stand out for me.

Apocalypse Now
Come And See (harrowing but brilliant)
Fury (watched this the other day, unusual to be set in a tank)
Cross Of Iron (love this)
Full Metal Jacket
Paths Of Glory
Downfall
Battlefront (seemed quite gritty for the time it was made)
Kelly's Heroes
Laurence Of Arabia

Others that i was thinking about including-

The Hill
Grave of the fireflies
Das Boot
Guns at Batasi
Zulu

As a child, I was taken to see 'Tora Tora Tora' at the cinema

That experience put me off war films for life!

About as conventional as i can be at the moment. Maybe by the end of the week it'll be different.
So since the topic was announced I've only managed to watch two war films. The Hurt Locker and The Longest Day. While The Hurt Locker was ok it certainly won't knock anything of my list. The Longest Day, close call but not quite. (Very) honourable mention.

I watched Johnny Got His Gun over the weekend, and whilst viewing it hasn't changed my top ten either, it's definitely a film I'd recommend seeking out; albeit harrowing stuff and another film from the ranks that shriek 'anti-war' from every pore.

Definitely not a child's film.

So on careful consideration I've decided The Longest Day really does deserve to be in my ten. So i'm swapping out Two Flags West which can always go on a western list if it ever happens.
Which makes my final ten

Ice Cold In Alex
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Pearl Harbour
71'
Inglorious Basterds
Schindlers List
The Patriot
The Longest Day
Zulu.
