Apparently Optimum are releasing a Roeg classic double bill on the 7th of March-

DON'T LOOK NOW and THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH

Have had them both on pre-order for a while. ;)

They're also releasing Brighton Rock and Manhunter on the same day, I think...

My pre-orders are at an all time high, and most of those are Blu-Ray. I have the following Blus on pre-order...

Amer (ABUK)
The Beyond (Arrow)
The Bird With the Crystal Plumage (Arrow)
The Cat o' Nine Tails (Arrow)
Les Diaboliques (Arrow)
Don't Look Now (Optimum / Studio Canal)
The Man Who Fell to Earth (Optimum / Studio Canal)
The New York Ripper (Shameless)
Phenomena (Arrow)
Tenebrae (Arrow)
Vamp (Arrow)
Witchfinder General (Odeon)

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 10th January 2011 09:36 PM

That's a great list of pre-orders, bizarre_eye. I can't think of any on that list that I won't buy or end up getting free for my birthday or if the distributors are so good as to send me a retail version for review!

Just wait until you get a job after uni mate - you'll have more DVD/Blus than you know what to do with! :)

Five words for you: "Charge when Shipped" and "credit card". That way you can pre-order to your heart's content and just make sure you have enough room on your credit card or in your back to cover the DVD/BD that is about to be released and then you can always cancel and reorder it when you have the cash!

Please don't take this as a recommendation to max out your credit card and get massively into debt!

nekromantik 14th January 2011 10:18 AM

ha ha
I would probs forget to cancel the pre-orders knowing me!!

@Bizzare
yeah thats if I find a good job

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 14th January 2011 12:18 PM

I've forgotten completely about pre-orders in the past and ended up with two copies of the same BD!

I don't do credit cards anymore; after getting into a bit of debt a few years ago. Everything goes on debit now, not credit. If I can't afford it - I make myself wait until I can!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 14th January 2011 01:41 PM

Same here (except the getting into debt part) as I only use my credit card for buying things in another currency as there is less of a charge than on my debit card.

nekromantik 14th January 2011 02:45 PM

I just got my first credit card 6 months ago.
its as student credit card so a lil bit better then normal cards.
However I only use it when I cant afford something but I will be getting money for the item in a months time. I use it to improve me credit rating basically :)

You beauty! I thought it was a bit peculiar that Amazon never removed the blu ray listing from its site but just put it down to them being rubbish. Maybe they knew all along :p another £15 I need to fork out then :p Volonte is the dude:cool:

Anyone else other than Amazon have it up on their site to order yet?

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 17th January 2011 11:55 AM

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but it looks like John Carpenter's Dark Star is coming to UK Blu in February.

Fantastic, the version I have on dvd is pretty shoddy. I was thinking of upgrading to the more recent dvd, but think I'll hold out fo blu now.

That's another film I really need to give a second look as I saw it years ago and probably wasn't in the right frame of mind for a low-budget sci-fi movie with the result that it left me distinctly underwhelmed. Since then, I have read numerous reviews and seen many lists which extol its virtues so I really need to see it again and see if I can appreciate it as much as everyone else seems to.

Not too sure, but you can keep a lookout on this site;
http://www.hdanddvdbargains.com/fetc...-[Blu-ray]

Maybe there's a chance the price on Amazon will decrease? :D

the blob 17th January 2011 03:12 PM

I think I'll wait for reviews on Dark Star seeing as it's been treated so badly over the years. Reviews of the new VCI dvd seem to be better though and I'm assuming they'll use the same source.

I had no idea Argos sold Blus and DVDs!! Sure they sold films years ago but always at high prices and mainstream nonsense, I'm surprised to say the least.

Argos is one of the many members of the chain that comes under the banner of 'The Hut' along with the likes of Sendit, Zavvi and Asda online. It is strange how much the prices differ between those different websites.

It is the same company, i.e. The Hut owns them?

Yes. Chances are if you have an order with one of the subsidiary companies and the item is out of stock, it'll be out of stock at all of the other retailers.

Apart from The Hut, there is only really Amazon, Play.com and HMV so it's now a case of so much for the Internet having a massive selection of different stores.

Edit: for more information have a look at this page in Wikipedia.

nekromantik 17th January 2011 04:50 PM

I have never really used Hut or any of its groups.
Prices for HMV and Amazon have been same or better so I stuck with those.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 24th January 2011 08:23 PM

I don't know this has reached stores yet, but Argent Films are going to release Salon Kitty on Blu-ray on March 28 in the 133 minute longest ever cut.

oaxaca 24th January 2011 08:52 PM

Am toying with ordering Kubrick's SPARTACUS: 50th anniversary edition, out today on blu and only a tenner on play.com!

kingofwitches666 25th January 2011 08:48 PM

Just re-ordered the pre-order of Faccia A Faccia from HMV for £12.99.

According to the site it's now dual-format. A blu with a bonus dvd.

Faccia A Faccia: hmv.com: Music CDs, DVDs, Games & More

I'd wait for some reviews first maybe. The US one got slaughtered badly across the board and it could well be the same transfer..

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 27th January 2011 11:58 AM

Came across some up-and-coming titles that might be of interest to some:

June

The Fifth Element

July

Being John Malkovitch

October

Cape Fear
The Frighteners

Gojirosan 27th January 2011 01:44 PM

October is going to be expensive!

Couldn't resist pre-ordering this:

Machete: Hmv Exclusive: Steelbook (2011): BLU-RAY: hmv.com

Probably only Cape Fear for me as I've got the US Fifth Element. I wish they'd do a double with the original again though! Couldn't really get into Being John Malkovich. Frighteners is a maybe.
