^ Damn you Universal and your steelbooks. Damn you! I'd already rebought The Thing for the slipcover and I've already got American Werewolf too. The inevitable packaging upgrades have come round sooner than I thought.
The Hurt Locker steelbook is out soon too which I'm upgrading to as well.

It seems Universal are going to make quite a bit of money from their hundredth anniversary! The Thing and An American Werewolf in London are two great titles to re-release in Steelbooks, hopefully with new extras and quality artwork.

Didn't they just release half of those films in the "Reel Heroes" collection?

Re-releases already? Universal haven't been in the BD game five minutes and already they're re-issuing new editions. How about actually digging into their catalogue and releasing stuff that we haven't got already. It's not as if they're short of material to put out on the format...or is this the future of BD? Few new releases and a constant stream of re-issued titles?

Agreed. It's hardly a great way to celebrate their 100th birthday by re-gurgitating the same old releases. Luckily, there are only two titles there that interest me (The Thing and AAWIL), and I already own them so may not replace my standard editions.

They could have used this opportunity to release a some of their catalogue titles, that have yet to come to BD (although, I have heard that they plan to release Jaws in August), but are more interested in a quick-buck.

I do agree too, they seem to be churning out some of their recently released Reel Heroes Collection along with a few extra ones. I'm assuming this is just the first wave though and many more will follow, this is going to be an expensive year.

I can see a lot of people buying these though, irrelevant of whether they already have them. Steelbooks seem to attract the rabid collectors like wolves.

In some ways it's very smart of Universal to do this, as they are pretty much guaranteeing sales from minimal to no work on their part. It just saddens me that an important event in their history (you don't turn 100 very often!) is a big middle finger to the fans of film rather than pretty packaging (Jaws aside! )

Very true and well said, although we will be getting Schindlers List (and like you say Jaws too) at some point this year but you'd expect more from them
