In some ways it's very smart of Universal to do this, as they are pretty much guaranteeing sales from minimal to no work on their part. It just saddens me that an important event in their history (you don't turn 100 very often!) is a big middle finger to the fans of film rather than pretty packaging (Jaws aside! )
Like you, the only ones which interest me are The Thing and An American Werewolf in London as, though I own all the titles on BD anyway, those are the two which interest me the most and I'd gladly double-dip for a handsome Steelbook.

As others have said, there are numerous titles deserving of a BD debut such as the Universal Monsters Collection, Jaws (though that is on the cards) and myriad others which really need an upgrade from a lacklustre DVD.

I'm not sure whether I fit into the 'rabid collector' category, but I'm not going to die each one of those releases just because they are in a metal tent.

I might pick up AWIL, just because I've been thinking about replacing my HD-DVD for a while.

I'm more interested in the leaked list that appeared last year though, because there's some great new releases on there.

The Birds
Vertigo
Dracula (1931) - Both English and Spanish versions
Frankenstein
Bride of Frankenstein
The Sting
Schindlers List
Smokey and the Bandit
Jaws
The Andromeda Strain
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
Jurassic Park (solo release)
Slapshot
Streets of Fire
Classic Monsters Box Set: Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy '32, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Creature From The Black Lagoon and possibly The Hunchback of Notre Dame '23 and The Phantom of the Opera '25 & '43
100th Anniversary Box Set (no idea what's supposed to be in this!)

Interesting. I wonder how many of those we'll see actually arrive on BD?

Put me down for anything Universal monster related, Abbott and Costello, The Birds, Vertigo, and Jaws.

It will also be interesting to see how many of these titles (if they do get released) will be released in the US only...

They need to bring out some more of Hitchcock's Hollywood films.

And get rid of the 'universal*' Universal bluray menu on the left of the screen which really, for some reason, annoys me on every release.

Was Psycho released before Paul, Scarface and The Adjustment Bureau? If it was, then Universal steelbooks don't have logos now.

Thankfully yes but I'm half expecting these to have some huge '100th Anniversary' banner or something...
