Because it intrudes over the artwork basically. The front cover of a dvd/bluray should stand alone as representative of the film and be a piece of art in its own right, in my mind at least. Double/triple play banners get in the way of this and, while I understand the labels need to make people aware of the fact that it's a BD/DVD combo, there's no reason they can't just put a sticker on the front, like Eureka do.

Because some of them as ugly as hell. Look at Rolling Thunder. Imo, the cover is ruined with that banner.

It's worse with older films too somehow, and Rolling Thunder is a great example of this. I can look at something like The Last Exorcism and the 'Double Play' banner does spoil it but it seems much worse when it's plastered across an old classic movie poster like Rolling Thunder, rather than a new film. Like a bunch of trendy advertising types peeing on a great film poster or something.

It's the intrusiveness that's the issue I guess. I have no issue, for example, with the Arrow Academy blurays as the dual format announcement on the cover is quite subtle, and you get the original untainted artwork under the slipcases anywway.

6 logos (bbfc & irish) on a cover is overkill. I guess they think people are too lazy to pick up a box and look on the back if they just put them on there. I also read before that the logos had to be a certain size, so I wonder how Eureka manages to get away with making them so small?

imo we should have the system as in the US
if its say an R rating, you see it on the back cover and maybe on the dvd itself
and thats that!
but not plastered over the place!
this of course will NEVER happen here

I will say after actually seeing Rolling Thunder in the flesh, the banner is only part of the issue. There's so much stuff crammed in that the pic gets crowded out.

Didn't stop me buying it and watching it last night though.
