Excellent news about The Frighteners BD -- it'll be something I pre-order as soon as it's available. As for Jaws, that's a no-brainer! Thanks for the heads up.

Strange they used the DVD art for the HD DVD.

Now, dare they change one of the most iconic images ever for Jaws? They did it with Scarface....

It's been on the front of every edition of Peter Benchley's novel and probably every VHS, Betamax, laserdisc and DVD release so I severely doubt it. It is probably one of the most iconic images in the history of modern horror so I doubt Spielberg would want to miss with it and risk pissing off 99% of the target audience.

Although, the iconic artwork was altered for the last dvd release, much darker and a even changed the look of the shark. I wouldn't be surprised if Universal alter it further for the blu-ray.

Maybe the original artwork doesn't look modern enough.

I really cannot understand why film companies continue to alter original artworks (and especially great ones like this).

If you ask me, there are only two possibilities - either you leave the original, or you create a totally new artwork.

I cannot stand those slightly altered original artworks. Just my two cents.

Greetings!

To be honest, I don't mind the slight alteration from the poster. It would be great if Universal began producing reversible sleeves with the classic artwork on one side and their 'new and improved' interpretations on the other, like Shameless and Arrow do (and Synapse did with The Dorm That Dripped Blood). I'm not holding my breath though!

This was the first thing that came into my mind.

Of course, IF it happens now, I'll brace myself!

Very true -- they might be the winged monkeys from The Wizard Of Oz!
