But you should stick with it to the end for one viewing at least - so many amazing moments to enjoy. It's a portmanteau of awesome

I can't wait to revisit it . . .
I can also understand why some people would hate it and just think it's a load of cobblers. I watched it last week and, for about the first half hour, wondered what the hell was going on and if it was going anywhere but, by the end, I had grown to really like it and plan to watch it again this week.

Cherry Falls (2000)

After being recommended to me by a few members here (Daemonia and Gojirosan to name but two) i decided to check this out. I'd previously dismissed this as a comedy Scream wannabe but i couldn't really have been more wrong. The plot about a killer who goes against convention by murdering virgins is a nice twist and the idea that the students at the local high school should arrange a cherry poppin' party is as fun as it sounds, especially as they were basically scared into it by Michael Biehn's rather creepy, yet by the book sheriff.

The film is well acted and has a few familliar names in its cast including Biehn and its star, the now sadly deceased Brittany Murphy. During the opening hour the film offers various red herrings about who the killer might be to keep us all guessing, however it all becomes clear as the film reaches its conclusion. Unfortunately, and i had been warned, the film whilst still containing nastiness was heavily cut at its time of release to gain an R rating from the MPAA and no uncut version exists.

Whilst the film is still good and recommended to all slasher fans, it would probably have been a genuine classic had the blood, gore and sex remained intact.

Here's what DVD Compare have to say.

The movie had to be re-cut five times in order to achieve an R-rating for Theatrical distribution. These edits include:

- graphic sexual activity during the climactic orgy sequence.
- The death of a character named Annette. The originally scripted scene showed her having her throat slowly pushed onto a pane of glass. The scene was filmed and very brutal, done all in one graphic cut. However, she shot was later replaced with her character's head split open in the front door. That scene was still trimmed heavily. In the original versions the top of her head erupts and a splash of blood flies across the doorjamb.
- Rod's death had more blood.
- Timmy's death was an on screen kill that featured gruesome spurting blood.
- A character's death at the climatic orgy was nixed for time and MPAA constraints. A male character's throat was slashed open.

Unfortunatly an uncut version does not exist on any medium at this time, all the current DVD releases are of the R-rated theatrical cut.
