The Cabin in the Woods: Always great!

The Poughkeepsie Tapes: Had to download this one, on the grounds that they never released it. Not too bad of a film, but some parts are hard to see because of lighting.

The Devil's Carnival: More for fans of musicals, not my cup of tea, but for fans of Repo! The Genetic Opera, you might enjoy this.

Splinter: Actually a pretty cool movie! My one complaint though is that the camera moves too frantically when you see the monster. I mean you just wanna look at it and take it in, but it doesn't give you a chance

Das Testament Des Dr.Mabuse: Very much enjoyed this also, simply stunning stuff from Lang (whose work's i'm gradualy opening up to more, might order M come payday). I hope I can make it a 3/3 by loving The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse, which i wonder if will be much different due to the time gap...

Dredd

I’ve not read any of the comics so can’t JUDGE it on that basis. But as a gritty sci-fi actioner I found it wholly entertaining. Comparisons with The Raid out of the way first: I enjoyed this more. While I found that film repetitive and soulless, the futuristic trappings and decent character work kept me engaged here. Good ‘world building’, had a pleasingly retro 1980’s vision of the future vibe with all the concrete and neon. The fun gimmicks like the slo-mo and psychic vision stopped it from becoming a monotonous shoot-em-up, and I liked the banter between Anderson and Dredd (Carl Urban doing a fun Clint Eastwood shtick). My only gripe would be the final act. Seemed to end with a bit of a whimper, would’ve liked a bigger showdown to finish on (were budget restraints maybe a factor there?). I hope I get the chance to see it in its 3D form, was a bit of a letdown when my telly told me it wasn’t compatible . . .

Can't say much more than that, other than it's very sexy

I'm gonna watch my copy of From Beyond this afternoon, I haven't seen the film in a very long time so I'm looking forward to revisiting it after all this time

Right it's been way too long since I let you know what I've been watching (and I do tend to watch at least 2 films a day after work) so I'll give brief reviews for a select few

Berberian Sound Studio - THE most incredible surround sound mix I've heard yet. To be honest the film was a little boring at times but the way the sound envelopes you I cannot help but want to watch it again soon just for the experience

Holy Motors - Ummmmm yeah, okay..... ummmmmm

The Illusioniste (L'Illusioniste) - Fantastique animation film from the creator of Belleville Rendez-vous, made me laugh sooo much. I just loved it, shame the UK hasn't got a Blu-ray release. Another to add to my ever growing list of Blu's to buy when in Paris in a few weeks time. Superb!

Untouchable (2011) - Hands down one of the funniest films I've ever seen. I think it may well hold a place in the top 10 best films I've had the pleasure to watch. LOVED IT!

Dredd - Just brilliant, so much fun. 5 out of 5, another one added to my French 'To Buy' list

EDIT: In case anyone is interested, my current list of Blu's to buy in France are

Dredd 3D in tin case
A Very Long Engagement
L'Illusionniste / Les Triplettes de Belleville Boxset
A History of Violence (supposedly has best PQ, no DNR)

It is very different - less gothic feeling, more modernist, still great though and way ahead of its time in predicting today's surveillance obsessed society. It's got the blonde guy out of Wages of Fear in it. That's all I got.
