AS IF I AM NOT THERE. An unsexy spin on THE NIGHT PORTER set during the Balkans conflict. It's all very worthy but ultimately redundant having nothing new to say about war, rape and violence unlike THE LIFE AND DEATH OF A PORNO GANG...but you ain't ever going to see that in your local chattering classes "art" cinema.

WAXWORK. Popular 80s horror that is so bloody strange and distant from the viewer, I have no idea what to make of it. Every scene feels beamed in from a reality that is bigger and bolder than our own and possibly controlled by early MTV. I really enjoyed it, especially all the mad emphasis on cigarettes and smoking.

CROPSEY. Here's one for true crime and THE BURNING fans alike. Two documentary film makers from Staten Island, New York start out making a film about urban legends which quickly turns into a documentary about child murder, Satanism and the soul of Staten Island. Worth a look, I watched it on NetFlix.
CROPSEY is a great documentery. The film reels of the kids inside the home were very disturbing.

Too true, very shocking in image and how it's used in the documentary. It really gives you a sense that there is something deeply wrong with Staten Island other than being the home of Andy Milligan! Now, I think about it, Andy could not have lived anywhere else in New York.

Robocop remake.

I went because mark kermode said it was ok. Then i remembered he was the reason i sat through twilight. Im going to spend some time collecting my thoughts but typing this fresh out of the cinema, the words bland and sanitized spring to mind.
