Considering I find most modern post-2000 horror remakes a touch on the tedious and bland side, I find the 2013 Evil Dead has grown on me over time.

Dark Relic (2010) is a SyFy channel horror tinged sword and sorcery piece.

The storyline has good potential, a tale of Crusader knights struggling to take a piece of the true cross to Rome and battling dark forces - but it is rather hit and miss, there are some good set pieces including one with possessed monks in a remote monastery, but it never flows and there is a really stupid addition of a young woman who spends most of the film espousing her modern atheist views, which are utterly anachronistic for the period and just seem stupid.

The director (probably a pseudonym) Lorezno Sena does a good job and the film looks magnificent, sadly the CGI effects are a decade out of date and used too often in the silly climax. James Frain is rather too good in this, looks like a thespian in a school play opposite most of the cast.

Not really worth the trouble, but do check out some great pictures in my Dark Relic review.

Yep, minimal characterisation, shockingly bad CGI, shit acting but somehow it, like the sequel, has a charm that shines through. They are very self knowing but play it fairly straight. The action is pretty much non stop too.
