Thanks Nos, much appreciated.

The fact you enjoyed those two films suggests you could buy Duke without any hesitation Nos.

I expect that to be the case because, in my opinion, Peter Strickland is a genius.

Road Games (1981) .Richard Franklin(Psycho 2)The heir to the Hitchcock throne that never was delivers a great psycho slasher and we never see drop of blood, just a great mix characters,Stacey Keach as the poetry reading trucker and Jamie Lee Curtis in her Scream queen era days are great match although Curtis has little to do towards the end.The killer like Jaws is rarely scene until the climax of the film, good job too as he is no Jason Vorhees ,luckily the film concentrates on Keach's investigation rather than the slaughter.Plus this was the era of two endings so just as we think all s well then up pops a severed head.
Truck Turner (1974) .Jonathon Kaplan. The Chef I mean Issac Hayes is a skip tracer/bounty hunter who takes no shit, when he's not punching or kicking people he's usually shooting them. This is a man who wears his magnum gun holdster just to feed his cat,and good job too as baddies are usually awaiting around every corner or rooftop. There is a story in there somewhere something about the mob, pimps and revenge but when you got Yaphet Kotto and Star Treks Nichelle Nichols swearing and chewing scenery then who needs a plot.
What We Do In The Shadows.Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi.According to the dvd cover this is a very funny film, even comparing it to Spinal Tap,and the best comedy of the year?Well thats high praise indeed and allot to live up-to.This is a funny movie, but no Spinal Tap made by the guys from Flight Of the Concords this is great and often silly film about vampires living in modern society.Thankfully this is no Scary Movie franchise more akin to The Office fly on the wall documentary style. Not all the jokes hit there mark but the high point is the clash between the Vampires and werewolves whose on going feud is like those crap fights you see in city centers after the pubs close.Funny in-places and worth a watch, kudos to the Peter the Salems Lot/Nosferatu inspired Vampire.

Watched the new Avengers film today. Sod the haters, me and my boy loved it, plenty of action, a fair amount of comedy, Scarlett Johansson, a drunk Stan Lee cameo, Scarlett Johansson's pregnancy cleavage, Elizabeth Olsen, Scarlett Johansson's ass in PVC....

There is no easy way for me to say this, so I will do it like a plaster over an old scab...

I recently watched...

Mission Impossible 1 -
I thought the movie was generic. 'Ocean's 11' and it's sequels do the genre a lot more favours than Tom and his band of actors in this semi-okay action flick. Nothing too terrible but also nothing to write home about. I enjoyed the film for what it was.

Mission Impossible 2 -
This film was like those times where you're sick a little in your mouth and didn't expect it but you swallowed it and now your throat is stinging and you then realise you're miles away from any drinakble water but the person with you keeps asking whats up? . . . It happened and I won't be doing it again if i can help it! AVOID THIS FILM TO SAVE BRAIN CELLS!

Mission Impossible 3 -
Phillip S Hoffaman is playing a bad guy! You've got my cash! Somehow that Ethan bloke is married and then we are in China and there is a rabbit's foot which is never explained but the explosions are pretty and it had guns and that fat capote guy is a great actor! I enjoyed this one, it was cheesy but I relaxed a little more and just enjoyed this flick for what it was: an action movie done the American way.

Mission Impossible 4 -
Well what do you know, it took two good films and one terrible one for Tom Cruise to get a great movie out on the market. This one was actually gripping, with lots of fun and a great working cast. I was also happy to see Ving Rhames show up at the end as he is one of the few great actors in the full set of movies. Some over the top gadgets let the film down slightly but when you stop taking it seriously it's all out fun and I would recommend!

Fantastic Planet -
I watched this again yesterday, but this time I watched the original french version and read the film instead. The story is slighty more understandable and lead me to wanting to find the book of the film, which was only recently (2010) translated into English. I love this film and can't recommend it enough.

The Hollywood Strangler Meets The Skid Row Slasher (1979)

A seedy slice of weirdness from director Ray Dennis Steckler, who brought us such greats as 'The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies'.

Here we have two independent serial killers; The Hollywood Strangler, who feels compelled to strangle the models he photographs, and the Skid Row Slasher, a porno bookstore owner who deals out stabbings to the local wino population when not peddling her brand of smut.

The film concentrates more on our tormented strangler, who certainly has issues when it comes to the female sex, and aided by his inner monologue strangles and chokes his way through a surprising amount of models without being suspected nor apprehended.

Aside from he internal monologue of our Hollywood Strangler, the film is largely dialogue free focusing mainly on the seedy set-pieces and flowing from one act of killing to the next with the usually filler stuffed in to bulk out the run-time a little. All the killing is merely the build-up to the point where our two killers finally meet, and this leads to a particularly uninspiring end to what is a essentially a pretty uninspiring film.

As awful as this film is, I have a strange soft spot for it. If that's the right phrase. It's shamelessly repetitive, just going from kill to bear breasted kill with no attempt at anything that might dignify it at even the most perfunctory genre trash pot boiling level... all with no synched sound! I mean, there's definitely worse around, but it teeters excitingly on the verge of non-film. I like how all the misogyny is sort of cancelled by the end, which features a feminist tramp killer? Did I make that up? It's been years since I saw it. Maybe I should get it out again? Maybe not. You did it for me! Cheers.

No, you didn't make it up - the skid row slasher is indeed a female tramp killer. I like how even the simplest attempts at attention to detail are nullified in this one when in one scene the slashers' blade is dripping with blood even though she is yet to stab her victim. It does have an odd charm to it though in many respects, plus as you state any misogynistic undertones are all but put to rest by the end in a seemingly 'get out' clause for the events which preceded it. Not many films of this era could boast the same!

It's a mad one, in some ways. Ludicrously, I got excited about seeing 'Bloodshack' on the back of 'Skid Row....'. You can imagine how that turned out.

Inseminoid (1981) saw it on VHS. Picture quality was crap & auto tracking was on. Still it was watchable although Judy Geeson's screams grated a little. Needs a decent release perhaps from Arrow?
