Oh! Heavenly Dog. Chevy Chase is a private eye in London who gets murdered just after taking on a strange new case, but then gets sent back down to Earth from Heaven to solve his own murder.... albeit in the form of a dog (Benji). Jane Seymour and Omar Sharif co-star in this thoroughly bizarre yet entertaining early 80s comedy fantasy thriller. I'd never seen this before, and I had no idea what the plot was, so when the above 'twist' happened, I was like "Oh boy"... but I stuck with it, and ended up thoroughly enjoying it anyway. Great fun.

I thought it was going to be good when it began with those amusing snapshots and the Holiday Road song. Thankfully it remained so.

31 (2016)

Five carnival workers are kidnapped one Halloween and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a deadly game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns.

The problem with Rob Zombie's 31 is that it's a largely plotless affair populated with largely unlikable characters that were er' rejected from The Devil's Rejects. Whilst it's well made, fairly graphic and fast paced, i was found wanting when it came to caring about characters who were one dimensional at best, and not bothering if they lived or died. It felt as if Zombie was treading water rather than exploring new levels as i felt he had dome with the rest of his movies, like them or not, they felt original, or at least original in the 21st century.

However the ending, playing out to Aerosmith's Dream On, was excellent and like the aforementioned Devil's Rejects ending, will stick in the memory long after the rest of the film has been forgotten.

Richard Brake as Doom-Head, especially in the opening scene, is brilliant!

Agreed. The film is much better when he's in it. Basically the opening scene and the last twenty minutes.

the pyjama girl case(1977)

A dead girl's badly disfigured body is found in a car on the beach. and ray milland, who gives a bit of class to the proceedings, plays a detective who comes out of retirement to solve the case.

this is a different type of giallo set in Australia that supposedy is based on an actual crime.
It is not the greatest example of the giallo, and is a rather bleak film, apart from a couple of comedy episodes involving a creepy chap who live on the beach perving on his neighbour.
but still holds enough interest for fans. With a few familar faces including Mel ferrer, and that chap from New York Ripper Howard Ross.
And the girl from Flesh For Frankenstein is looking as gorgeous as ever as well, who gives a good performance as the slutty and tragic Glenda who picks up men for gangbangs, including a fat chap with a moustache.

one thing I wasn't impressed with was the terrible singer amanda lear. but didn't mind the rest of the soundtrack. 70 out of 100.

Nightmare City (1980, Umberto Lenzi)

STIGLITZ!!!
Ahem. When an unidentified plane lands in an Italian airport, things go swiftly south as the cargo certainly breaks most regulations
I love this film. From its somewhat pedestrian start, it soon becomes a maelstrom of guts and gobbledygook (as the army vainly try to keep a lid on the situation ). Utterly wonderful. RIP.

Soda Cracker (1989, Fred Williamson)

What's a cop to do? His pardner gets wasted, but no one believes the truth of the matter. Throw in a Trumpish villain and a duel with a remote control helicopter and you have another of The Hammer's odd wee films.
See also Death Journey (1976)

The House With Laughing Windows
A paint restorer is tasked with fixing a controversial painting in a small town. However he begins to hear rumours that the painter was a killer.
An interesting viewing to say the least, some of the main set pieces don't truly kick off till nearer the end. But it is nevertheless an intriguing watcg

It's a slow burn for sure b

Americathon (1979, Neal Israel)

Yet another in my attempt to watch every film made this particular year. Satirical silliness this time, as a skint Murica stages a telethon to raise some dosh. Fred Willard and Peter Riegert star. Very cheeky, twas originally a play, proving yet again that Hollywood is filled with opportunist scum
Ahem.
