Mark of the Devil
Not as good a film as Witchfinder General, but certainly more brutal in the torture stakes.Herbert Lom, Udo Kier and Reggie Nalder play their parts well, and there's plenty of female eye candy on display (usually getting burnt, stretched on the rack, raped, or having their tongue ripped out).

Still ploughing through the Video Nasties .. Def Guide.

Came across the video company "inserts". As I grew up during the pre-cert era, I am ashamed how many I didn't remember! But those I did remember brought a warm feeling inside. Nice indeed.

After avoiding all the reviews & even the trailer (so I could watch with a complete open mind & no preconceptions), I got home from work last night & watched A Serbian Film.

Shogun's Sadism (aka Oxen Split Torture), Angst (aka Fear), Irreversible and Haute Tension.

Shogun is two stories the first one a gruesome tale about a local warlord obsessed with torturing christians. At 40 minutes long, the death toll is surprisingly high and effects none too shabby. The second story is quite darkly funny and tells the story of a young chancer who works to pay off his debts to a whore house. Good flick - apparently the second story features re-incarnated character from the first.

Angst is the story of an inept but enthusiastic killer. I actually found this movie quite funny - very little dialogue except for the inner thoughts of the protagonist. Not much gore and low tension but most definitely twisted.

High Tension - well you've probably all seen it already. That Marie looks like a bit of a dyke and do they know how hackneyed 'Switchblade Romance' is as a title? The twist was hackneyed too .... last resort selection.

'Irreversible' - loved it! Highly recommended. Don't be put off by giddy camera work, vomit inducing hum reviews. This is a great film and because the story runs in reverse, you might find the end surprisingly uplifting.

I thought Haute Tension was a great film when I first saw it and still do. As for Cécile de France well... I would!

Which ending? The bit in the greenhouse or the very end?
