I don't think you will be too surprised when you have seen the bedroom scene, Mark, to see why it had serious problems with the BBFC. The fact that the scene was submitted as a stand alone feature several years ago only made matters worse because they are looking for context, although no doubt if included as part of the film numerous cuts would still have been required. I really can't see that scene ever getting through intact over here. The lingering close ups, the explicit nudity, the woman being restrained, the use of the scissors over her body etc.

Well we know the BBFC also rejected the stand alone "Fake Porn movie" from the extras of The Howling as it was taken out of context (The sequence in the film itself is pretty explicit but it's much longer here though the footage is silent). It is pretty unpleasant when viewed separately from the film itself as the girl is also apparently raped with a broomstick.Ironically as you know Angel, the footage is intact on the Danish '15' (!) rated dvd I own.

Not necessarily recent buys but my latest film viewing has consisted of,

Fade To Black - good idea, made in the early '80s and produced by Irwin Yablans. I had high hopes for it but it turned out to be a big disappointment. Better character development would have helped somewhat but hey ho.

Sword Of Sherwood Forest - good for the proverbial rainy day/lazy Sunday morning. A mediocre film lifted largely by Peter Cushing's performance. It was watched back to back with the Leon Klimovsky movie - The Devil's Possessed - which was marketed as a horror film but in fact was more like Robin Hood. I think the Hammer effort is slightly more charming but the Klimovsky movie has a bit of violence in it.

The Loch Ness Monster Story - an interesting documentary detailing all the technology used to find what's down there. Nothing conclusive of course but entertaining nevertheless. And yes I am a believer that something is down there, whether it or even they will ever be found is anyone's guess. It's a big area afterall.

Nightwing - so-so late '70s Nature On The Rampage film about a horde of vampire bats terrorising the locals in the desert. The attacks are quite cheesy but that aside it's very talky. I think David Warner's performance maybe gave it more dignity than it deserved. A curio anyroad and worth seeing at least once because it is watchable, nothing like a classic though.

Humongous - slightly better than average early '80s slasher about a group of teenagers stranded on an island with only the bones of people and animals for company as well as a mutated wild man on the loose who wants them for dinner. It could have been better and the lighting certainly left a lot to be desired. It's not bad though, certainly has its moments.

Night Train Murders - I watched the Shameless disc and it held up well to a repeat viewing. Not a classic by any means but more entertaining than Last House On The Left. The last 10 minutes in particular are great.

Within The Woods - the movie Sam Raimi shot to get funding for The Evil Dead and dare I say it's better than The Evil Dead. Well I think so at least. Just a shame it's never been officially released, my DVD-R looks like a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy taken from a really damaged master.

Yes that scene in The Howling was quite disturbing although I have never seen Fake Porn Movie. Not surprised it was passed 15 in Denmark as there is no censorship for adults there and 15 is the highest rating. I have no doubt whatsoever that Mordum and Murder Set Pieces would also pass 15 uncut there.

It's unusual for the BBFC to reject a silent film because after all a film without sound (and over here it would mean no deafening screams) would have less impact. Still the same rules apply.
