Caught Shield of Straw and Grandmaster on my flight yesterday.

Shield of Straw was a little disappointing. Miike never really manages to create the tension that this thriller really misses. A great idea though.

Grandmaster. Does the world need another Ip-man movie? when its as gorgeously shot as this yes!

Just read it, that's got to be the most jumped up written review by an arsehole I have ever read. He was intent on ripping it a new bollock. Even the opening line read like im an arsehole.

EdTV was pretty bad.

It says its a two star film which in my opinion sums up the first one perfectly.

Not seen the new one, is it actually an improvement on the original?

Lets just say I would give the first 2 stars aswell and this one 4 stars outta 5, so in my opinion its a significant improvement. It ramps up everything so it feels more like a wild exploitation film than the original which was weighed down by its political commentary and too many talky bits. This one does have political overtones but they are not so forced so, in short, I found it just SO much more fun.

I don't get all the criticism for it being sexist and misogynistic e.g like the idiot who did the Empire Review - ITS A FREAKING EXPLOITATION PICTURE FFS!. Filth which is out at the moment also has plenty scenes of women in sexy get-up but hypocritical mainstream critics look past that and hail it an excellent film.

MASSAGE PARLOR MURDERS. Fairly average exploitation fare, involving hookers being killed by a maniac. Light on both sex and violence, this lacks the scuzziness I both wanted and needed. That said, I love this type of stuff and enjoyed it over all.

Jason X :-

Couldn't finish it. Terrible kills, bar one. Terrible visual effects. The acting was okay. Best thing in it was the presence of David Cronenberg, but he didn't last long. Oh ya, and Kane Hodder.

From 1945:
The Thin Man Goes Home OK
The House of Fear Hmmm! Formulaic
Blood on the Sun Not bad, has a great fight scene at the end thats quite violent given the 40's!
Tarzan and the Amazons Cheeta obviously showed Paul Hogan how to fish!
The Woman in Green Henry Daniell as Moriarty in my view makes a better Professor M than either Atwill or Zucco.
Anchors Aweigh Its sugary and smaltzy... I liked it plus it has two of the greatest stars in cinema history in it.....Tom and Jerry!
