The Black Phone. 2021.

After being abducted by a child killer, a young boy is locked in a sound proof basement and starts to receive calls from the killer's previous victims and helping him on how to escape.

This looks like it was a homage to the late 70s independent movies, that doesn't rely on a big budget but more on the atmosphere and acting to make it genuinely creepy. Ethan Hawke has done some good movies in the past but this one kicks it up a notch being like a real boogeyman and almost mind playing games. I had hesitation about this but with the good character build up especially with the younger actors it surprised me how good it was. Worth a glance.

Watched this again yesterday and I'm just going to get straight to the point this film is amazing it blows my mind how good it is. There is such an amazing atmosphere you almost feel suffocated at times. Every time the camera pans back and we are staring into the woods you get the feeling someone is watching you in your house. Everything feels perfect to me the acting the setting even the twins are just superb. I get flustered trying to describe how much i love this film so many thoughts flying through my brain i find hard to put into words. There doesn't even have to be much going on to make you feel a little unsettled even something as simple as watching William Chopping wood has that feeling of unease about it you can feel his feeling of desperation and the shame he feels in himself as a father and husband that he can't protect his family from the evils that are trying to rip them apart.

Its just so amazing and beautiful.

I dont give perfects scores but this is close

I've watched it every year since it came out and it remains constant in it's brilliance. Shall be watching it again in October.

I think a lot of slow and well developed films are better than most films these days, they have the tension atmosphere storline etc that a lot films seem to lack these days. I've watched slow films and got engrossed in them and then watched wall to wall action films and bored shitless and turned off, another one that I really enjoyed and doesn't get mentioned is fanny lye deliver’d .

It's just such a shame the directors follow up was so awful.
