He Never Died. 2015. Jack is a loner who does nothing but sleep, play bingo and eat out at his local diner. When a couple of thugs show up at his door, Jack shows he isn't a man to trouble. Henry Rollins stars as the lead actor in this comedy action horror, he has that 1000 yard stare that means your ass will be handed to you. As the film was going on I thought he was some sort of vampire but turned out he was something...or someone else. This does come with its laughs that never go over the top or spoil the film. From start to finish this was worth watching. images (4).jpg

She Never Died. 2020. Sequel to He Never Died this time Olunike Adeliyi plays the protagonist Lacey who is the friendly killer the police are looking for but swings in the different direction. Peter MacNeill plays the detective hunting a serial killer and Kiana Madeira as the new friend of Lacey. This had potential to be good but the plot didn't make sense half way through and the laughs are a bit few and missing. The acting is as best it can be, Jason Krawczyk did return to the sequel but as writer only, but think this will be a one watch only for me. I think it's one of those films you can't watch over and over in case it does loose the impact from the first viewing. Sean Pertwee is a great actor and in this he doesn't hold back on his performace and dialogue delivery.

Decemberdike # 29 Dog Soldiers (2002) A platoon of British soldiers on weekend manoeuvres in the Scottish wilds stumble across the scene of a savage wolf attack and end up hiding out in a secluded farm house as they face wave upon wave of Lycan attacks as they try and survive till the dawn. Neil Marshall's directorial debut is as accomplished as horror gets. It grips from the first scenes and refuses to let go. You feel the tension rise steadily although there are some blackly comic moments in there which are bound to make even the most jaded horror fan grin. A film which takes it's cues from classic base under siege movies like The Thing From Another World or Assault on Precinct 13 rather than your typical Wolf Man fayre, this newly restored Blu-ray from Second Sight Films of Marshall's classic was an absolute joy to watch. |

One line in Dog Soldiers always puzzles me. Emma Cleasby's character Megan tells the troops they are a good four hour drive from the nearest town, that being Fort William. Four hour drive? That would put the farm house somewhere between Carlisle and Blackpool. |
