I am really not trying to be provocative, by the way. Sorry if it seemed worded that way.

I have tried and tried and tried with Ghibli and anime in general. It is the one area of Japanese cinema that I simply do not get. It's not for me...but I'll keep trying now and then.

I loved Marine Boy when I was a young kid, if that helps!

See the wiki page

It gives more details but figures based on the film My Neighbour Totoro which is what children's films should be like!

Whether or not it's a fine example of anime, I couldn't say, but Grave of the Fireflies is one of the finest films about war ever made.

Grave of the Fireflies made me blubber like a baby. Never watching it again.
Certainly a hard hitting film about WWII

If we're talking about Ghibli collectibles

All from the official Ghibli stores in Kyoto (Kiamizu Deru), and Yufuin.

Tapatalk doesn't give full size thumbnails, but click them, and they show full size.

My Brother is big into anime, and the Ghibli stuff, for christmas he had the complete unabridged Naussica Manga, two huge hardback volumes.

Has anyone seen the Coon and Friends episode of South Park, they homage Totoro brilliantly.

When I saw that South Park episode it was clear Matt Stone and Trey Parker were big Ghibli fans. I now want to watch My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies again, probably Totoro last as I need cheering up after the World War II film has finished and the Cat bus will do that perfectly.
