Agreed - the '80s prequel is much better than the later installment/s starring that Pattinson fella.

lost boys 8.2/10

The Bride of Frankenstein. 9.8/10

for me this is the superior of the two frankenstein films, with a tighter script and more interesting characters and Whale seeming to have more control over the movie.
highlights are Una O'Connor as Minnie and Ernest Thesiger who is delightfully camp and sinister at the same time as Dr. Pretorius, who as mentioned elsewhere is the real second monster of the movie

I think you may have reversed that decimalised score in error, treb.

Yes. I'm sure trebor meant 82/10 because it's just that good.
Justin101 and trebor8273 like this.

So I thought I'd watch two of the years "big hitters".
Lights Out
The Conjuring 2

As the trailer for LO had made me chuckle severely, I tried to go into it with an open mind. This did not survive the pre credits sequence. I give up with these bloody films really. Never mind that it all seemed like an attack on alternative lifestyles (IMHO)..... Thankfully it seemed like no sequel possible, but with the amount that it has made, the inevitable follow up will no doubt be with us at some point. Made me think fondly of The Babadook ahem.

And so to the other.....

Watch When The Lights Went Out instead. Better film all round. Wan is the new Roth. A dangerous man.

Also perused that 31, at mate's insistence. While he was quite taken with its grotty vibe, I was bored to tears with this by-the-numbers water treading. I'm sure in his own mind he is reinventing the genre, but this will be the last of his tripe that I will sit through.
