Well most people hadn't even seen BoB/TotDN, so Cunningham was pretty safe. Problem was when Bava's stuff was rescued from obscurity om ld and dvd, anyone who wanted to could see where F13th pt. 1&2 came from could, rendering Cunningham's claims immediately disprovable.

I still don't know if he is lying though, as the producer behind it, Phil Scuderi, Victor Miller (He claims he came up with the idea of a campsite setting) or Tom Savini could have brought any of those elements to the project.

Anyway we all know Italians rip off American films, never the other way round.

Still I think Bava would had found the whole slasher sub-genre rather amusing, esp as he had already poked fun at the gialli genre all those years before.

I think it's fair to say that the American slasher genre was strongly influenced by the Italian giallos.

No doubt! I do get frustrated with the slasher fans who ignore gialli, outside of Argento & Fulci.

I think giallos are more often exercises in style, whereas slashers were, more often than not, just excuses to employ Savini.

An excellent slasher. Savini's work was never closer to reality.
