I'm playing this in the car non stop since I got it and bloody hell is it a real gem of a find. Even the label on the case says it's pure relentless black metal but honestly it's a much deeper and more complex album than its own cover gives it credit for. It's not just pure blast beats there is so many different changes of tone and tempo in every song the slow parts are beautiful the violence is complimented perfectly by these slower parts. You can hear the influence of other Swedish Black Metal bands especially Dark Funeral but it's just a small component of their sound but it's there.

Good call. I think i'll play that cd whilst i'm making my warming carrot, potato and cannellini bean soup for tea. With the added ginger, garlic, onion, nutmeg and turmeric it should be good enough for the Celtic hordes.

Firstly it was the €5 price tag that peaked my interest just being a cheap b*stard if I'm honest then when I heard a few snippets as I already said it sounded so different odd tempo changes I just knew I had to own this.

Anyway listening to it this week I'm blown away the entire album is a masterwork especially from a one man band so much atmosphere it sounds evil but also the musicianship sounds like if Rush made a Black Metal record. I'm sitting in the car right now picking my ladyfriend up from work and I'm getting chills listening to it. It's dark its miserable it's lashing rain it's perfect.

There are these haunting chants in the background creating more beautiful layers and the drum sound is sublime with some heart pounding double bass drum and vocally it sounds like there are two maybe three vocalists that changes from song to song but no it's just one man.

Amazing stuff

Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters

Opening up with the hooting of a owl and the faint sound of crickets then a slow mix of drums keyboards and guitars the opening track is meloncolic hypnotic and beautiful transporting you to another place entirely it's one of the finest openings to a black metal record there is.

I have always loved Wolves In The Throne Room from the first time I heard this record. Their sound is different from the Scandinavian black metal sound it doesn't give you that cold evil feeling it's more of a feeling of campfire in a forest at dusk it's more about nature than bleakness and even anger it feels more like a tribute to mother nature and what she offeres us this is a tribute to her beauty but also understanding her brutality.

So much atmosphere so much beauty it's only a 4 track album and the final 2 tracks have some of the most beautiful female vocals you will hear with some beautiful tribalistic drumming rolling thunder and a guitar sound like they drafted Mark Knopfler in for a guest spot.

For years WITTR were called a hipster black metal band admittedly by complete idiot's.
