I like the new version of "Gettin' Tighter", as it features Bolin's great guitar playing more prominently, but I prefer most of the original mixes. Shirley's version of "Lady Luck", for instance, almost totally eliminates Lord's great keys - some may like that, I don't.
Call me old-fashioned, but I generally prefer original album mixes. One exception to the rule comes to mind, though: Bruce Botnick's good "40th Anniversary Mixes" of some of The Doors' albums, e.g. 'Morrison Hotel'. I've heard that quite a few people dislike his method of adding new elements (a few piano parts here and there, or Morrison's shout "Do it, Robby, do it!") and altering the mixes quite freely, but I don't have a problem with that. I guess the explanation is quite easy: in this case, I don't know the original mixes.
