Phantom of Death was a great little number with a quality cast and a genre-tested director.Devservedly rescued from obscurity IMO.Donald Pleasence Michael York,Ruggero Deodato-cool!
RATS NIGHT OF TERROR? More like SHATS NIGHTS OF COMATOSE....
The film that finally gave Roland Rat his big screen debut is more effective than morphine.....

Ah AV Maniacs, I haven't posted there in ages. I don't have a problem with Rats and Bruno Mattei is a director I like very much; I just don't think he mixed the two genres very well with it.

Yeah, PoD overall is good fun. I think it did begin to outstay its welcome a bit as it went on, but it had that lovely sunny feel good '80s Italian feel to it with nice women and even nicer locations.

Watched this today after a few months. I enjoyed it more than the first time which even then was alot. It is in my top 3 favourite titles from Shameless at second Place, Night Train Murders being first & My Dear Killer 3rd.

Any film with Old Donny is always a worth while watch anyway. As always he never disapointed here. The Film was original and very well made. The Print was gorgeous as was many of the sets.Poor Ol Donald always ends up with the role of the murdered, or driven mad by the killer. Sam Loomis And Datti to name 2.

I do however agree although Obviously not meant to be intentional his rant was hilarious as he run around in circles like a pigeon looking for bread in that city square. .

Also I found it amusing when he found his colleague dead in her car he pursed his lips and gave a look which was a mix between a constipated owl, a Canary after some seed and a perv after a kiss from a corpse .

York played the role of the bitter Murderer very well. the make up was also great how they aged him well.

Despite this is was obvious it was him throughout so why did no one recognise him??? when he turned up.

I thought he had it when the whole group of people in the area after the colleagues murder were dragged into the cop shop. But who would think a geriatric coffin dodger would sleigh a nice Dr and a lovely police officer??.

I finally got around to watching this and I quite enjoyed it. The plot is a bit ropey and Donald Pleasence has done better, but when all is said and done this is quite a sad and fairly emotional story.

However you're a big fan of Vipco releases, so there's no accounting for taste hehe

I think it's a big fun silly film, like most of Deodato's stuff.

i dont actually watch the vipco discs as i already have better versions of most of their releases.

The only good thing about PoD is Miss Fenech.
