I've never heard of Two pints of large and a packet of crisp.

I have seen most episodes of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and thought it was funny, very enjoyable and easy watching. I'd happily watch repeats and would quite like to have the DVDs.

I'm not sure how it could be improved or why a reboot is desirable or needed.

If there are new episodes by Susan Nickson with Will Mellor and Ralf Little, hopefully with Sheridan Smith and the other main cast returning, then I'd welcome another series.

Doesn't look too bad...except that horrendous CGI blood splatter.

I watched it on silent so i've no idea what cliched dialogue they were coming out with.

Waterworld’ is Getting a Sequel in the Form of a TV Series

It is a perfect day to rejoice and stop and smell the roses. Cause, today is a little brighter. For, ya see, there is a Waterworld sequel on the way. That’s right you guys. Finally, The Mariner is returning to the spotlight as he should be. The whole thing is already in motion, but hasn’t yet become an official greenlight.

10 Cloverfield Lane’s director, Dan Trachtenberg is going to direct the pilot episode and the search has begun for writers to work on the series. So, while it isn’t locked in for an official greenlight, we are well on our way according to producers John Fox and John Martin.

The original cult classic was directed by Kevin Reynolds based on a screenplay by Peter Rader and David Twohy. It saw a world whose ice caps were melted, the result was an earth that was completely submerged in water. The adventurer, The Mariner (Kevin Costner) survived out at sea and was half fishman that could breath underwater.

you recall The Mariner went up against a gang of pirates called The Smokers that were lead by an eye patch-wearing and quite comic bookish, Dennis Hopper. If you recall, quite comically their barge was completely surrounded by smoke due to the whole crew smoking cigarettes.

The film was entirely over budget and was the most expensive film ever made at the time. It was up in the $170 million range. Sadly, the film didn’t do very well at the box office. I’m completely confused as to why that was to this day. It was like Mad Max at sea. What’s not to not love about that?

The streaming series hasn’t found a home yet, but as Dan Trachtenberg and team have began putting the pieces together, I’m sure we aren’t very far off. I’m hoping that Costner comes back aboard. There are good chances of that considering to this day, Costner says that it was one of his favorite films that he ever worked on.

Arctic thriller’s film crew struggled to find true frozen waste

Colin Farrell and his co-stars in the BBC’s North Water shocked at the loss of wilderness at the north pole from global heating

It’s a problem that, a century ago, anyone on a ship in the Arctic Circle just didn’t have to worry about: where is all the ice? Yet this was the unexpected stumbling block faced by the film-makers of a forthcoming BBC thriller set in the Arctic in the 1850s.

The North Water is an epic five-part adventure about an ill-fated 19th-century whaling expedition into the Arctic. In the pursuit of realism, its producers realised that they could not rely on special effects. Nor would shooting it in a studio tank or off the coast of Britain achieve the authenticity of filming in the Arctic, however extreme the conditions and challenges.

But, in travelling north to shoot the drama in a wilderness of pack ice, they ended up – thanks to the effects of global heating – just 22 miles away from the north pole.

“We had to keep going further and further north,” Hakan Kousetta, one of the executive producers, told the Observer. “It was quite shocking to realise how far we had to go. It really is like turning up to a desert and finding out there is not enough sand.”

He added: “We had made assumptions about where you’d find ice in the Arctic Circle. It turned out you have to keep going north to very extreme locations when, just a few years ago, you didn’t have to. We were filming in incredible places that look almost unreal.”

The North Water is a brutal story of a disgraced ex-army surgeon, who becomes a ship’s doctor on a vessel with a murderous psychopath on board, played by Jack O’Connell and Colin Farrell respectively. It is based on Ian McGuire’s acclaimed novel, about which the Observer reviewer wrote in 2017: “I have never read a novel that has unsettled me to this degree. It is relentless in its examination of life aboard an English whaling boat in 1852 – though it is difficult to understand why anybody would board this ship, bound for the Arctic, in the first place. When the surrounding waters freeze for hundreds of days on end, conditions worsen: the ship becomes a hotbed of sodomy, murder, drink and theft.”

It has been adapted for the screen and directed by Andrew Haigh, who, inspired by McGuire’s depiction of the brutal beauty of the Arctic, said: “I wanted us to feel the biting wind, the bitter cold. I wanted to capture that fear that comes from being so far from civilisation.” And, as he recalled: “All of us were terrified at times.”

...

While the Hollywood Reporter noted that “some of the visuals of frozen, barren nature are jaw-dropping”, Variety wrote that the drama “creates a sense of chilliness that will permeate one’s bones on even the hottest summer night”.

The North Water was commissioned by the BBC and made by See-Saw Films for BBC Two and iPlayer, and will be available this autumn. Iain Canning, managing director of See-Saw Films – whose previous productions include the Oscar-winning The King’s Speech – said: “The North Water is a love letter to the Arctic. We wanted to capture the beauty of the area and believe it needs to be protected.”

Dead Ringers Poppy Liu Joins the Cast of Amazon Series Based on David Cronenberg’s Horror Movie.

Morgan Creek Entertainment is currently working on a small screen adaptation of David Cronenberg‘s Dead Ringers, with Rachel Weisz starring in and exec producing the adaptation.

Today brings an update, with Deadline reporting that Poppy Liu (“Hacks”) has joined a cast that also includes the previously announced Michael Chernus (Werewolves Within).

Billed as “a reimagining with a gender swap,” the project has been given a straight-to-series order by Amazon. It comes from Weisz, Alice Birch, Annapurna Television and Morgan Creek.

Deadline describes, “In Dead Ringers, written by Birch, The Mantle twins, played by Weisz, are the most successful, brilliant and extraordinary people you’ve never met. Identical from head to toe, these two OB-gyn’s are on a mission to change the way women birth, starting with Manhattan. Drugs, pioneering but very much illegal medical research, sex and falling in love, this drama based on the David Cronenberg 80s cult classic, takes us to darker and stranger territory than we could have possibly imagined.”

“Liu will play Greta, Beverly and Elliot’s watchful and meticulous house manager who runs their lives with complete efficiency and her own hidden agenda,” Deadline explains.

The site also notes that the series “is said to explore themes like women’s health and the issues it faces, including underfunding, as it focuses on the two professional women, the Mantle twins, who are excellent at their jobs while also trying to navigate life outside of work. In the series, the Mantle twins share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.”

Jeremy Irons starred in the 1988 film as the twin gynecologists.

South Park fans stunned by ‘absolutely absurd’ $900m deal for 14 more movies

Lucrative deal also includes years of more episodes and a video game

Fans have reacted in shock after the creators of South Park secured a deal worth $900m (around Ł650m) for future rights to the long-running cartoon.

ViacomCBS, the parent company of Paramount and MTV Studios, announced the deal yesterday without specifying the price, which was reported by Bloomberg.

The deal includes 14 made-for-streaming South Park movies, which will debut exclusively on the Paramount+ streaming service, as well as a video game and the commitment to produce new episodes of South Park up to its 30th season in 2027.

Animation fans expressed their shock at the deal on social media, with many people bemused by the high reported price of the deal, and South Park’s receding notability in popular culture.

“Paramount inking a nearly billion-dollar deal for South Park in the year of our lord 2021 is the kind of unforced error we won’t fully understand for years,” one person tweeted.

“The South Park thing… they’re chasing the extreme Gunsmoke-defying longevity of The Simpsons,” wrote another. “Somehow some of the defining hit adult animated sitcoms of the nineties are with us forever.”

“Well The Simpsons and South Park will be the two shows that will never end even if the world blows up,” wrote someone else, while another described the cost of the deal as “absolutely f***ing insane”.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love South Park, but that is an absolutely absurd amount of money for that IP,” wrote another Twitter user.

Chris McCarthy of MTV Entertainment and Paramount+ said in a statement: “Matt and Trey are world-class creatives who brilliantly use their outrageous humour to skewer the absurdities of our culture and we are excited to expand and deepen our long relationship with them to help fuel Paramount+ and Comedy Central.”

According to Bloomberg reporter Lucas Shaw, the deal is one of the “biggest talent deals in Hollywood”. Viacom and Park County are also reportedly looking to sell the international streaming rights to the series, in a deal which would be expected to amount to hundreds of millions of dollars.

In the UK, South Park can be streamed on Now, with select previous seasons also available on Amazon Prime Video, Sky Go and Netflix.
