There use to be a time when the family all sat round the table and watched something decent on tv at Christmas,That has all changed now.

The BBC's Xmas Day schedule is familiar but not terrible.

19:45 - Call the Midwife
21:00 - EastEnders
22:00 - Mrs Browns Boys

I would think SS was inferring the likes of Two Ronnies, Morcambe & Wise and others where they would get 20million all sitting down for BBC or ITV after Xmas dinner with only 3-4 channels to choose from it seemed more of a mutual experience. only the good Doctor and F & S hold any real anticipation for me.
trebor8273 and profondo rosso like this.

I'm not sure how much, or little, TV from the main four or five channels I'll watch this Christmas and New Year as most of the time will be spent with family and watching things I own on disc, not as they are broadcast.

It's perhaps a coincidence, but I have The Farmer's Llamas still recorded from when it was shown last year. I've seen it since, but don't need to watch it 'live' because it's on my V+ box hard drive.

I'll certainly watch the John Noakes thing. We got a Go With Noakes annual into the shop ... decent nick... the memories. Ahem.

I was thinking more along the lines of too many channels now to choose and watch stuff on and of course they come with very annoying ads on them.

Now I do not mind more choice but that normally means more rubbish because we can not think of something worthy to put on.

Most of the Christmas stuff has already been recorded yonks ago and hardly any 'live' stuff goes on except obviously the news.

I wonder if Sky/Virgin/BT and the others were not around and we only had say freeview it would be better?
