Keith Gordon is critically as a filmmaker - his directorial efforts include A MIDNIGHT CLEAR, MOTHER NIGHT and WAKING THE DEAD. I'm embarrassed to say I've not seen any of them but have owned the latter film for a while now. |

The first time i saw Christine? That would be about six months ago. It was one of those films i'd just never seen, despite being a fan of John Carpenter's work. I just didn't find a killer car that interesting. How wrong was i? I loved the film, everything i thought would be poor about the film was outstanding, especially the characterization and it turned out to be a tremendous couple of hours entertainment. Oddly i've never seen Cujo either. It must be a Stephen King thing i guess. |

When I was a kid, my cousin rented this out and I thought how lame is this gonna be, a killer car!? - I picked "Madman". But now, over the years I've come to love it, while I think Madman is kind of meh. Not many directors could pull off such an absurd idea without it being a complete cheese fest, but Carpenter, helped by a great cast, manages to do so.

Yeah, he's directed, amongst other things, A Midnight Clear, The Singing Detective, and episodes of Dexter.

Read the book a couple of times, in my teens. Loved the book, thought the film was ok. I didn't like how Carpenter presented it as a 'killer car' - in the book it's more like a haunted house on wheels, with the first owners ghost having a lot more to do with the story. The car is shown as evil from when it's on the production line, in the film. In the book it's haunted by an evil owner. Still, not a bad film in its own right. |
