Evil Dead 3D. Now that's at least one film that I could tolerate watching in 3D. I'm sick of the sight of 3D already, James Cameron and his blue alien pals are to blame for this. This whole "Thing" prequel is starting to stink too, if you ask me. I'm actually more interested in the idea of a sequel to the classic original, more than this prequel. We could of just pretended that the original black and white "Thing" was a prequel anyway. It covers everything that went on previously, concerning digging the crap up, really well. Just pretend they were from Norway. Problem solved. I would like to see the organism reach civilisation, now that could make for an exciting movie! Then they could maybe bring Mcready back, in a slightly more credible way. Not much more credibly though. Who was infected? Kurt Russell or Keith David? Who got rescued? Or did they both freeze to death. If one of the bodies was infected, then they're bodies would be shipped back to where they live, triggering the horror all over again. In the City. I would enjoy this film, if they made it. The Thing Returns...

Plot During the player's investigation of the ruins of the Outpost, they will find the UFO from the film. They will also find the body of ? (NO SPOILERS HERE), one of the survivors from the movie. Upon securing the facility, Blake is airlifted to the Norwegian research station to locate and reinforce Alpha Team after Colonel Whitely informs him that they have lost contact with the team. There Blake and his group encounter swarms of Things that slowly dwindle down his team as Blake rescues Colin and learns of a government conspiracy with Gen Inc in conducting experiments on the alien lifeforms before they began to infest the research facility...... I'll leave the plot there, don't want to spoil it in case anyone wants to play it. It's a pretty good game for the time, I like the use of a 'Fear System' to ramp up the tension. Oh & the Xbox version does work on 360's.

Hi, I've got a copy of it, but haven't played it yet mate. Kingofwitches has though, by the sound of it, so I'm sure he will post in and tell you a bit more about the game soon. My old Xbox controller is f**ked, so when I find a replacement, I will play through it and post about it sometime.

"The Thing Returns" - not sure I've ever liked the concept of the Thing running loose in a city. It would then be a messier version of The Body Snatchers. Trouble is that's been done to death. I'd prefer a "The Crazies" style of movie where the creature was found in a remote township and the threat was that it could escape to a major city and effectively begin to colonise the Earth. Then, as the threat appears to be over, his comrades finally arrive to see what it's been up to.... |

I alway's assumed that Evil Dead 2 was a remake anyway, but with a much bigger budget? It felt the same with Escape From LA too. I like your idea for a "Thing" sequel too, I would watch that. The budget would be through the roof if they made The Thing, and it was set in New York or whatever. The threat of the creature possibly reaching a major city, from a remote town somewhere sounds good to me. Either way, I would defiantly enjoy watching both of those versions of a sequel to The Thing. I must admit, that I'm not too excited by this Prequel coming out. Hopefully we'll all be pleasantly surprised. I don't think I'd like too naff films, the two being The Thing, and John Carpenters The Ward... |

Any survivors you come across can join you but you have to arm them, give out ammo so there is a 'management' system that has to be implemented too. Going outside is also fraught, as there is an 'exposure' meter so theres always a sense of urgency when following the rope lights to get to the next out building before the meter runs out & you & your squad freeze to death! The other neat thing in the game is the fear system & the trust system. This is implemented by making it possible for one of the player's squad members to be 'turned', and for the player not realize to until it was too late. In the trust system, the player may lose the trust of his squad if he kills a squad member on the belief that that squad member had been 'turned'. The squad would react to the killing depending on if the slain squad member was or wasn't 'turned'. If the squad member had been 'turned', the squad will praise you for killing him. However, if the squad member was still human, the squad will lose faith in you and may even try to kill you. In the fear system, the squad reacts to the environment of an area. An area that is covered in blood, or an area where there is a lot of wreckage present, might inspire fear in the squad. Also, the number of 'things' present or the sizes of the 'things' may frighten the squad members. The individual members of the squad may react in one of three ways: The squad member runs away. The squad member becomes irrational and begins shooting (with both regular guns and flamethrowers) indiscriminately. As this places the player and the squad in significant danger, the player often has to kill this squad member. If the player kills this squad member, the squad will neither gain nor lose trust in the player. The squad member will simply give up and commit suicide. There are several different ways that you can kill a 'thing'. A small 'thing' can be shot, while a larger 'thing' will have to be shot till it's nearly dead & then torched with a flamethrower. Methods of killing boss 'things' varies. Think I might dig out my copy & have a go for old times sake. Who knows it might be a nice alternative if the film prequel is truly terrible!

I don't have high hopes for the film, especially with the need to have a few American actors in it. I would have liked to have seen all Norwegian actors and the film in Norwegian and subtitled in English. Sure, it wouldn't have been for everyone but it would have made it more interesting.

most films starring Jessica Biel are normally a bit naff anyway. Watchable, but naff, if you understand what I'm getting at? |
