The Film Books Thread

Hi there!

Has anyone ever read the EC Comic Archive books released by Gemstone? I'm thinking of getting one but which one?! So far it's between the Vault Of Horror or the Tales From The Crypt book. Any ideas?

You can always try some university libraries for Barker's book (my old one had it and that is how I managed to read it - although I finally located a battered old second hand copy out of sheer luck) or ask the man himself directly. He teaches at Aberystwyth University. It's a pretty good read - divided into individual chapters by those who opposed the Bright bill. Barker himself writes about seven or eight movies, running down the plot descriptions for those who have not seen them.

See No Evil is, as has been mentioned, probably the last word on the nasties though - hugely in depth and essential for any scholar on the subject.

Yes it's a good little book. I bought this when it first came out and still dip into it on occasions.

There is a copy of Nightmare USA sitting in my local waterstones, I have always wanted to get it but its £30 had a flick through it and it looks awsome.

How weird is that! I was just about to post a thread about Nightmare USA book too! I was thinking about getting it off amazon.

Even stranger! I was having a little read of my copy last night, and thought i might put a post up about it too! Spooky days!

This book is fantastic. In fact I'm willing to say its my favourite book about film! I love the way the author (Stephen Thrower) unashamedly speaks up for such considered 'cinematic atrocities' like Pigs, boarding house et al. Its lovely having such a well informed and written book with an appreciation of film so similar to my own. This book is highly recommended!

Oh and there should be a part 2 in the pipelines
