I don't think they issue CA for films over there. That's the nice thing about the BBFC, they give you so much info on their site eg why the film was cut, how much was cut, does the film contain strong violence etc. No other website in the world gives out this amount of info. The MPAA site is useless. Apparently HOLOCAUST was passed uncut in Ireland after it was previously banned. By the way they also have a VRA as well.

Can't say I've ever seen a UK DVD where the Irish rating is higher than the BBFC rating on the cover, although I have seen it on the inside of the packaging. They shouldn't be allowed to have the Irish rating higher on the cover.

As far as allowing the Irish rating, presumably this is all down to the VPRC.

The film 'WEIRDSVILLE' which Almar so kindly sent me from the Zavvi promotion thread has a white and red BBFC 15 rating and a blue Irish 18 on the front cover as well as spine and back.
There's also a ' Fit for viewing 18 years or more ' in bold capital's directly under the BBFC 15 rating on the year.
Kind of confusing dont you think.

With Belfast coming under BBFC UK film classification does that mean if I hop on a train and cross the boarder I could be in for a dvd buying treat , as there our no customs on the train journey and its only a couple of hours max by express.

I think its time to phone HMV Dublin and see what they got.

Your right, the BBFC have a great website, well maintained and very informative.

Some films I'll buy over and over again (Dawn Of The Dead, Street Trash) regardless because I'm a completest, everything else I'll only buy the newer release if it's better than the version I previously bought.

I'll definitely replace a disc if a better version comes out - this is something that I have done on numerous occasions in the past and will continue to do so, especially given the fact I'm now collecting Blu-ray discs.

If I think I'm going to watch a film again a couple of times, and the disc I have at the moment isn't up to much, I will replace my disc.

Like for example if I have a 4:3 video transfer disc and an anamorphic 1.77:1 version with superior sound comes out I'll get that, like for example.

Bride of Re-Animator
The Lost Empire
Cannibal Women
Deathstalker 2
etc.

I don't buy new versions of films just for the hell of it, need to have a good reason.

I only get double titles when I buy a bunch of DVDs second hand from someone (and just pay a few euros for the single DVD), or if I like a movie a lot and the one I have is cut (Im getting the Arrow DVD of Island of Death, for instance).

I would only replace a DVD if a version became available that was significantly superior to the version that I already owned in terms of image quality or language tracks.

I did have the Blue Underground release of Don't Torture a Duckling but have now sold it due to the fact that the UK DVD features the Italian track and a much more colourful transfer.

I would never replace a DVD though due to additional special features or anything as unimportant as superior artwork. If DVDs came packaged in old bin bags it would be all the same to me.
