Bought a double pack blu-ray of Alien vs Predator 1 and 2 for 8 pounds including delivery. To be honest, I'm not the greatest fan of these crossover films (to say the least) but I wanted to complete my Alien blu-ray collection. And 8 quid was a good price for 2 films in new condition. Frustratingly the second AVP film has an unrated version on the US blu-ray whilst the rest of the world received theatrical cut only. I'm not region friendly so I'll just have to make do with a several minute shorter, tamer version.

So it begins…

Based on what I've seen from a quick browse through the discs, with the Blu-ray Disc in one player and the 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc in another, flicking between the two as they play simultaneously, I don't think I'll buy any new releases on standard BDs. The difference is astonishing, both visually and aurally, and I'm amazed at how dull and blurry the picture is from the BD.

Even though I've just bought a 4k TV I don't know if I will be buying an 4k films just yet, they are expensive and it's only the main blockbusters that get a release , saying that the picture quality from my old HD. TV is like night and day.

It's something you'll probably get round to eventually. I spent a lot of money on an OLED TV because I was unimpressed, and a bit annoyed, by the contrast on the LED screen. The difference between HD and 4K UHD is a similar to the jump from SD and HD.
