I believe arrowfan resides in canada.

Someone asked on their Facebook page, and they replied saying it was on for the duration of December. I certainly hope so, as I get paid just before Christmas.

Oh dammit! I didn't even know there was a Blu of The Lady Vanishes!

Will the expenditure never end?

I emailed them this afternoon asking how long it was on for and when they would be shipping the ZFE LE's, just checked and I'm yet to get a reply, they must be busy sending out all the LE's :coolblue:

What's the deal with The Dark Knight Trilogy set? Looks like all the disc content is there but what's this book? I know you can get this book in hardback and it's quite a big size; is this the same book but scaled down to fit in the boxset?

Baseball Fury 1st December 2012 06:40 PM

Its a sampler of it, shrank down to BD size as well, kind of like the Bladerunner one

Does anyone else have these? Haven't checked yet for quality or aspect ratio but these are some really great gialli for cheap.

How did you get these from HMV?

I'm tempted by these at those prices too but I've spent so much on Criterions and Arrow stuff the last few days I'd better curb my spending!

Called the shop I picked up the 2 popflix giallo sets and asked if they had the third Blood Red Nights collection. They couldn't find it in the system so I dropped over just to check and.....

Now I have the complete collection of the three Giallo sets put out , thankfully I've been able to snag these before the are non-existent.

bdc 1st December 2012 08:38 PM

Not a dvd/bd but got this recently (completely slipped my mind)...I now finally have a complete collection until the early nineties,so all the really interesting stuff. ;)

I believe the first issue I bought at my local newsagent was number 56.

It looks great for it's age and I got it for a very reasonable price.

http://oi47.tinypic.com/mh9aau.jpg

However...the poster that came with it seems to have been put on a wall and got a bit wet at some point (or did someone do the naughty with big G?)...it's a bit wrinkled and has some slight water damage.

So the seller (top bloke who didn't remember anything about it btw) send me this to make up for it:

Progeny - Millennium Series (1998) (Sterling)

I have a few other Sterling dvd's so this will join them in my collection. :)

Thought that was Prophecy for a second, rather similar covers. Always wanted to see Prophecy.

And is that the Godzilla poster that's in Luigi Cozzi's Profondo Rosso shop? I think I might have seen it in the tour on the Arrow Deep Red disc.

Wes 1st December 2012 10:38 PM

Blade Runner (Warners, Blu)... What to say that hasn't already been said about Ridley Scott's masterpiece - it may well be the Greatest Science Fiction Film (it's only competition would be 2001), and a movie that pays out handsomely with each viewing. Only superlatives will suffice - it's philisophically rich, visually spectacular, brilliantly written and scored and for everyone who worked on the film, surely their finest hour. Syd Mead's futurism aside, Blade Runner feels like a nod to the great film noirs of the fifties - sixty years ago this could easily have been made with Humphrey Bogart playing a frazzled G-man charged with tracking down some Communists trying to infalltrate American soceity. It's a testament to the film that the debate about Deckard's humanity will go on and on, but for this viewer, I never felt he was a replicant...

Pretty grim with some nice gloopy effects.

Grabbed my first order from the Arrow site. Just picked up a few to fill in my Argento collection:

Huge fan of Argento. I know the flaws in the films but thank you Arrow for putting out such beautiful packages. Stendahl is a very personal favorite of mine. And getting them all for just 16 pounds was the icing on the cake.

Nostalgic 2nd December 2012 07:53 AM

Out to buy some xmaas cards & food shopping in a few hours...however, there's a Computer Exchange & a HMV nearby.....who wants to be I come back with some dvd's to add to my stack!:loco:

...which will make no sense as I have too much to watch! Lol!

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 2nd December 2012 09:28 AM

According to Paul M Sammon in his book Future Noir, Deckard was supposed to wear a Fedora to further identify him with classic noir protagonists. However, Harrison Ford, having just made Raiders of the Lost Ark, refused as he didn't want to wear the same style hat in two films running.

Ah that's a great story (and a great book). Watching the film again, I kept on thinking of Se7en. David Fincher must have had Blade Runner in mind when making the film. I could list favourite moments all day but one scene I really love is the moment when Roy Batty kills Tyrel - that astonishing look on Rutgar Hauer's face, the rage of knowing his fate is sealed, the realization that his mission has ended in failure. Extraordinary moment...

Picked up The Dark Knight Rises steelbook along with three of the more recent Hellraiser movies,Rec Genesis,The original The Thing from the 50's and two documentaries and The Hunter on dvd.

I think I've been diagnosed as a commie.

I thought I would enjoy Red Dawn, I thought I would find it amusing in the same way I love Rocky IV but I just can't sit through it, I think the furthest I've made it is twenty minutes.

I loved Red Dawn when I watched it a while back! Admittedly, I was on (completely legal) drugs at the time.
