Maybe I'll watch it again this weekend and see if it fits the definition of 'absurdist' and, if so, if I think enough of it for it to make my list.
Absurd humour is a frequent trademark of the Czech new wave. I think its probably more apparent in Milos Forman's films (see firemans ball) but I'm genuinely surprised no one seems to pick up on some of the genuine humour inbetween the dark fairy tail elements of Valerie. The vampire that feeds on the blood of chickens for example or the anticlerical humour that mocks the church and its attitudes to femininity.

Surely humour doesn't mean absurdity though?

Speaking of absurd i watched Malatesta's Carnival of Blood last night. That really was nonsensical stuff.

Indeed D. Nail - head etc . That's the spirit I watched it in. Having seen part of it on YT, (cough) with a rather sneering commentary track, I thought that'll be an antidote to whatever mainstream piffle I'm forced to endure in the name of entertainment .

Now i love Fargo but would never class it as absurd. Quirky definitely but absurd never!

I look at the absurdity of the situation with the kidnapping in itself, of the money being forever buried, of Jerry Lundegaard's ridiculous attempts to control criminals while holding down a mundane existence flogging cars with dodgy sealant and it all boils together as, like most Coen Brothers films, absurd.
